Chapter 47
C47 – Moon Girl
Zhao Qianqian was the epitome of beauty with her fair skin and stunning figure, not to mention her broad-mindedness. In Zhou Mu’s eyes, she was nearly flawless. Yet, there were times when even her allure couldn’t sway his resolve. Matters of a man’s pride took precedence over all else, and he couldn’t rest until he had settled his score with Zhao Qianqian.
“Aunt, I have another question,” Zhou Mu said, taking a deep breath to quell the fury within him. “When can a spirit animal transform?”
”Transform?” The principal’s smile hinted at a complete understanding of Zhou Mu’s inquiry.
In a world ruled by Animal Whisperers, one debate was inescapable: Should a transformed spirit animal be granted human rights? This question had sparked numerous ethical and moral discussions. After years of contention, the Empire had issued a definitive decree: Spirit animals were the private property of their Animal Whisperers. Upon transformation, they did not possess independent human rights but were tied to their Whisperers. Put simply, the rights enjoyed by a transformed spirit animal were an extension of their Animal Whisperer’s rights—the greater the Whisperer’s power, the greater the rights of the spirit animal. Additionally, imperial law declared that spirit animals with human lineage were entitled to the same rights as humans. This meant that the offspring of spirit animals and humans were recognized as human by the Empire and granted all associated rights.
When Zhou Mu inquired about the transformation of spirit animals, the principal naturally assumed Zhou Mu had ulterior motives. But of course, he was mistaken. Zhou Mu was a man of ethics, honor, principles, and responsibility—a true gentleman of the modern era who would never stoop to base acts.
“Typically, spirit animals can assume human form once they reach the Lord tier. However, those with potent bloodlines, such as the mythical, divine, and demon species, must attain the King tier,” the principal explained with a smile. “Gator and Golden need to reach the King tier, while Genie only needs to reach the Lord tier.”
“Understood,” Zhou Mu acknowledged, nodding before departing with the Moon Beast.
With the opening of the Fire Grounds only half a month away, he would soon face competition from the entire northern warzone. It was time to prepare—and prepare well.
The Moon Dew and Moon Sprout aren’t solely skills; they encompass a portion of knowledge as well.
Once, a pharmacist attempted to replicate the Moon Beast’s concoction. Though successful in creating the product, its effectiveness was merely a third of the original.
That said, the trade-off was the ability to produce it in bulk, presenting both pros and cons.
Upon returning home with Genie, Zhou Mu opened the door to a bizarre sight.
Goldie was sprawled on the sofa watching TV, while Rice Bucket was tied up, limbs bound and mouth gagged, squirming on the floor.
“What’s happening here?”
Zhou Mu was baffled. Rice Bucket had a penchant for nibbling, but this was excessive.
“Boss, I’m starting to think this guy isn’t just dumb; he might be brainless. No reaction when spoken to, and no learning from mistakes. If I hadn’t reacted quickly, the TV would be history,” Goldie said, looking utterly spent.
”Fine, we’ll leave it like this for now.”
Zhou Mu exhaled deeply, his resolve to cook Rice Bucket growing stronger.
Advancing from a leader to a lord required five Bloodline Refining Stones, or 2,500 points.
Short on points, Zhou Mu had no choice but to hunt fiend beasts.
Stocked with enough food and water for two weeks, and accompanied by Gator, Goldie, Genie, and Rice Bucket, Zhou Mu set out with vigor to start his points-earning quest.
As Zhou Mu’s level rose, the carcasses of lower-level fiend beasts no longer qualified for rewards.
With no other option, he sought out the challenges posed by elites and leaders.
Two fourth-rank lords were virtually unbeatable in the wilds, slaying gods and annihilating buddhas.
Only a fifth-rank or a seventh-rank or higher stood a chance; all others were doomed.
Meanwhile, Genie had been productive, creating numerous Moon Dews and Moon Sprouts with impressive results.
Each drop of Moon Dew could restore roughly thirty percent of Goldie’s energy, while the Moon Sprout could regenerate Goldie’s lost feathers.
Indeed, Goldie had gone bald once more!n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
They had a close encounter with an eighth-rank leader. Gator and Goldie battled fiercely for over two hours, barely managing to hold their ground with Genie’s assistance.
The ordeal resulted in the complete depletion of the Dew of the Moon and the Sprout of the Moon, resources they had carefully conserved for days. Goldie and Gator nearly met their demise.
The wilderness, it must be said, was perilously dangerous.
Venturing out alone was a gamble with death at every turn.
Zhou Mu learned his lesson this time and vowed to abandon his reckless ways.
After several days of relentless combat and the defeat of numerous high-level fiend beasts, Zhou Mu had finally accrued enough points for Genie’s advancement.
Without a moment’s hesitation, upon returning to school, he immediately redeemed a Bloodline Tempering Stone for Genie’s use.
A soft glow emanated from Genie, creating a harmonious echo with the moonlight streaming through the window.
The Moon Beast’s lineage, while not on par with that of a mythical creature, possessed its own unique traits.
With each evolution, it wasn’t Genie’s combat strength that grew, but rather the ancestral knowledge she inherited.
The moonlight draped over the scene like a cool, serene veil.
Responding to the Moon Beast’s silent summons, the scattered beams of moonlight began to coalesce, flowing like water into Genie’s being.
The Moon Beast’s evolution unfolded more slowly than Zhou Mu had anticipated, taking a full ten minutes to complete.
As the glow subsided, there before him stood a delicate little girl, carved from jade.
Her large, dewy eyes and soft, pale cheeks were captivating. In her left hand, she held a stone mortar; in her right, an alchemy pestle.
Her shy demeanor unleashed a flood of paternal affection in Zhou Mu.
“Genie, come here.”
He squatted down and beckoned. After a brief pause, Genie leaped into his embrace.
With her ascension to Lord-tier, Genie’s attributes had significantly increased, and she had acquired a new, exceptional skill.
[Moon Girl: Lord-tier skill. In the glow of moonlight, it can boost energy recovery speed by up to tenfold and reduce incoming damage.]
This ability not only enhanced Genie’s work efficiency but also bolstered her survival capabilities, marking it as truly outstanding.
“In such a short time, he’s already elevated Genie to a Lord-tier? Perhaps it’s better for her to be with him than with me.”
Youlan gazed at the moonlight cascading from the heavens, her heart a tumult of emotions.
She had initially resisted the principal’s decision to entrust Genie to Zhou Mu. Genie, barely born, had not yet savored a mother’s love before facing the prospect of being handed over.
But as a mere spirit animal, Youlan was powerless to defy the will of an Animal Whisperer.
Now, she understood the principal had been correct.
Zhou Mu, the boy shrouded in mystery, possessed the ability to accelerate Genie’s growth, potentially guiding her to heights beyond Youlan’s own reach.
“He is Zhou Chun’s son, Zhou Hao’s nephew; a life of mediocrity was never in his cards.”
Approaching Youlan, the principal affirmed, “Under his guidance, Genie will undoubtedly ascend to the Holy Throne. Perhaps she’ll even transcend, achieving true divinity.”
