D.E.M.O.N.S: Getting Summoned Weekly isn't so Bad

Chapter 1588 Break Glass in Case of Drakes

--- Hunter ---

The discussion from there moved away after a casual grumbling about having seen the movie on the screen before. Hunter did learn that the servers had been corrupted AND replaced with better backups now. They didn't seem worried so there was likely some way to replace the parts. Hunter wasn't sure how easy that was but considering that the theatre here seemed to be in good condition that made sense.

Somehow things were getting replaced.

Still it wasn't quite relevant so Hunter signed to Meg, "What should we do?"

"Kill them?" signed Meg back.

Hunter rolled her eyes and signed, "No I mean should we stay here and listen? We know the objective was in the pool and that got moved to a nearby room afterwards for storage. We could likely find it without too much issue as such a large amount of treated water has a distinct smell. We can easily follow the scents from there to find the drake part… Enjoy more content from empire

"But the plan we agreed on requires is to make contact with the group here if it's reasonable. It seems reasonable but we have no great idea on how best to make contact. I'm leaning towards waking Corela for advice myself, and perhaps have Kamiko look her over. She's got her healing and more medical knowledge then us,"

"Not sure I agree with that" retorted Meg as she threw in the closest she could manage to rude gestures without ruining the signs. "Still… I admit she had a more focused education and has a better bedside manner then I do."

"Right, I agree but we've drifted from the point. Should we listen more and hope they get back on topic? Maybe gently sabotage the projector to force a topic change? Or should we just go for the drake part? The fact that they were able to move it, and move it through presumably smaller doors to get it into the room means that it's light and not too large," signed Hunter.

"Perhaps… or perhaps they just broke it and forced it to reform in the places they wanted it to. Personally, I am fine with either. I feel no strong opinions either way. I'd be happy to spend as much time with you as possible but it occurs to me that Kamiko and Bower might get spotted.

The upper pantry wasn't empty but it wasn't close to full either and I have no idea how regularly they go down for supplies," answered Meg.

That… that is an angle I admittedly hadn't considered and I would applaud Meg for bringing up if she wasn't fleecing me so much. I trust Bower to know how to remain hidden and guide Kamiko for the same but there are limited hiding spots in the room and they may not be ready for it. Did… did we lock the door again? Yes, I believe so. Hopefully Meg… wait no 23HX502 fixed it properly.

Seems I'm allowing myself to slip up internally again. This is why I do not enjoy spending time with her, especially around others. It makes it easy to go along with her naming preferences despite everything. I was likely doing it before and missed it.

Regardless, that leaves me pondering the best way to go about this. I was… perhaps not happy but quite willing to spend some time roaming around and looking for information, perhaps spending a full day on it despite our potential time crunch.

The risk of discovery shrinks that timeline further, and while clearly these two aren't that interested in the movie they aren't necessarily going to bring up anything better. I also doubt 23HX502 will agree to splitting up, which may be the ideal situation.

"Perhaps we should check out the drake part first. We can come back, or find some other people in the compound. These two don't seem to be all that interested in reaching a conclusion right now despite what they were saying earlier. The isolation likely means they have… grown accustomed to arguing to stave off boredom at times," signed Hunter.

Meg shrugged it didn't really matter to her as Hunter didn't seem to be splitting them off. So with that lacklustre confirmation Hunter just made her way out of the room. Sniffing the air for a while before eventually tasting the scent of the water.

She did of course keep an eye out for others along there way, and the pair even ducked into a bedroom of someone's to avoid another person in the corridor but it didn't take longer than ten minutes to find the pool.

From there Hunter was able to easily follow the scent of the drake a little further and get to the door holding the drake part… only to find it locked. Hunter wanted to grumble, as Chasen or Ben really could've mentioned that part, though with Meg here it wasn't a big deal. Using two tiny knitting needles Meg picked the lock open.

Apparently even with a lot of high level materials and advanced science locks could still be mostly useless when people were lazy.

Inside there was the drake part. It had been sealed in a glass box but had no other restraints on it. As she'd guessed they'd likely needed to break it a few times to get it out. This was clearly a foot, a large one at that and came with a fair bit of leg too. Hunter glanced over at Meg. "So?"

"Great news! This part here is large enough that if I break it near the one back with Kat and Lily they SHOULD reform together outside of the rock. It's not quite what I had in mind when I suggested we leave but this will save us some time and a considerable amount of environmental damage.

Not entirely certain what the best way to remove it permanently is once that's done but I am sure I can work out the best way afterwards," signed Meg.

"Not going to eat this one?" asked Hunter.

"Just because my biology is capable of digesting them and deals with the taste better then everyone else doesn't mean I like the idea or that it's entirely comfortable… but yes if it comes down to it. I likely will," signed Meg.

Hunter nodded in approval, despite Meg's… Megness there were moments that Hunter was quite glad to be in the same clan. This was one of those. An unpleasant but necessary task and it Meg was prepared to take care of it without complaint. Hunter just wished Meg was a bit more professional about other aspects of her life.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

With that settled Hunter took another look over the box, just in case there was some sort of trigger she was missing… but there was no magic there to keep the drake part contained and the glass box wasn't even held down securely. They'd literally just placed a glass box that could fit the leg over the top of it and left them on this table. Hunter gave the glass a very gentle tap and frowned again.

This was just standard glass. Not the higher quality stuff she knew they may have been capable of. This was perfectly breakable even for mortals.

Hunter double checked the underside of the table just to be absolutely sure. "There… there's no defences on this thing at all?" asked Hunter.

"Nope, none. It's so weak that my ability has trouble telling me what the best way to defeat it is," admitted Meg with a shrug.

Hunter wished that was useful information… but it really wasn't. The reason Meg's ability was having trouble was because it took about the same effort to just left the glass off as it did to shatter it, or even break the table. "So shall we go look around more?" signed Hunter.

"I suppose," agreed Meg.

Hunter and Meg made there way out of the room and headed off. Before long though, Hunter noticed a few recent scent trails going to a nearby room. Curious Hunter followed them for a while until coming to a door with significantly more security then the one they were just in, it had a passcode lock and a card swiper but Meg was able to punch in the passcode and somehow trick the card reader.

Entering the room they found quickly why it was so secured. This was the cryogenics room. There were a bunch of pods lined up against the wall but many of them had a bright red sign above their name reading 'WARNING UNSAFE TO UNFREEZE!' which was… interesting.

The big exception was a cryopod right in the centre with an old woman. It had been modified beyond the rest of them, taking up nearly three times the space with a bunch of redundant systems all hooking into it. Hunter glanced over at Meg and asked, "Are those people dead?"

"Some of them," confirmed Meg. "Others… sort of? It's hard to tell but sleeping for so long, when you're a species not used to it does funny things to the soul," Meg glanced at the woman likely to be Corela. She had significantly more scales along her body then the others. "I'm guessing Corela got a bigger hit of that dragon ancestry allowing for her soul to deal with this better.

I… am not entirely certain waking on of them up except for her would work. Even the ones without warning lights,"

"What do we do with this information?" asked Hunter.

Meg shrugged, "Kill them?" though even Hunter could tell it was a joke. Meg didn't have much of an idea of what to do with them either.
