Chapter 460 The Second Time's The Charm!
"Jamal Hydra!!"
*BANG!*
Another poor armrest had been destroyed thanks to the unexpected results of the competition.
Jamal, unlike the other two, did not want to lose to Shye.
He even took the risk of hunting at night for a few more hours just to ensure that he would win.
Hence, it was truly difficult for him to accept this outcome of being inferior to two first-year rookies.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
He didn't have any bad blood with Shye, it's just that he was an intensely competitive guy who hated losing more than anything, and due to his frustration, Jamal didn't even notice the crowd's thunderous cheers as he fought toe-to-toe against the (A-) ranked Phantom Panther.
The creature vanished and reappeared from all angles like a ghost. However, Jamal, like a combat prophet, always predicted the Phantom Panther's next move and effectively counterattacked after narrowly avoiding its attacks.
Such an intense and exciting battle would naturally keep the crowd on the edge of their seats.
After about fifteen minutes, the battle finally concluded when Jamal, courageously taking a hit from the panther's lethal paw, managed to behead it with a fierce rising slash counterattack, prompting the crowd to cheer wildly.
What the other two couldn't do was hunt an (A-) ranked creature.
Thus, Jamal's bravery in attempting to hunt one cemented him as the superior between the three of them.
Naturally, Erwin and Verson found it hard to accept that they were utterly defeated by Jamal, however, what could they do?
Had they dared hunt in the biting darkness of the night, they wouldn't be in their current positions.
Unfortunately, this was their final opportunity to prove their worth as rookies, and they ultimately fell short compared to Jamal.
It would be tough for them to prove themselves in the future as they would be considered veterans starting next year and their stage would be much grander.
To reclaim their former glory, they must rise above all the adventurers in the region—a feat that was almost impossible to do.
Well, even Jamal had the same difficulties as he didn't want to get buried under the shadow of other geniuses, but unfortunately for him, no matter how hard he worked, he was bound to be a second-rate adventurer as Shye was about to redefine the meaning of "first-rate".
Jamal's recording ended without the guy even enjoying the best hunt he ever had in his life.
He initially felt proud of this achievement of defeating an (A-) ranked monster even though the equipment, armor set, and mana device that helped him do so was given to him by his clan.
However, upon finding out that even this achievement of his was only enough for him to obtain third place, Jamal was suddenly disinterested in it, and he couldn't explain the feeling in his heart.
Was it the greed of wanting more for himself? Was it unwillingness?
He didn't know.
For now, he could only sit beside the first two—in the third-place seat while watching two first-year rookies battle it out for the top spot with a bitter heart.
As for Damien, now one of the last two remaining, his heart raced wildly.
He hadn't expected that the pill his father gave him, which allowed him to rest for only six hours every two days, would enable him to surpass the other three.
He worked tirelessly day and night to hunt as many creatures as possible, all to defeat Shye.
Damien didn't mind losing to the other three, but Shye was the one person he couldn't bear to lose to.
He never expected that, instead of defeating Shye and losing to the other three, he would end up defeating the other three while the outcome between him and his mortal adversary remained unknown.
Naturally, Damien was thrilled that his sleepless nights enabled him to surpass three talented individuals who had a year's advantage in adventuring.
However, the unexpected results implied that his mortal enemy had accomplished the same, hence, he couldn't bring himself to feel truly happy.
Not until he officially defeated Shye.
With the results he had been eagerly awaiting for the past year about to be announced in the next few seconds, how could Damien not feel slightly nervous?
"CAN, YOU, BELIEVE IT FOLKS?! IT'S THE FINALS OF THE ADVENTURER ACADEMY COMPETITION ALL OVER AGAIN!!" Bart exclaimed in utter excitement.
He was directed to open the result envelopes for the top three one at a time, which is why his reaction was genuine.
Bart never expected that it would be Damien versus Shye once again who would be competing for the number one rookie spot.
Hearing Bart's words, Damien's heart raced even more.
"Everyone, are you ready?! With a total accumulated points of 682, this year's second-ranked rookie is…Damien Martinez!!"
*BANG!*
"NOOOO!!! NO!! NO!!! HOW?! HOW DID I STILL LOSE?! DIDN'T I ALREADY DEFEAT ANOTHER (B) RANKED CREATURE AND AN (A-) RANKED ONE?!
WHAT MORE DO I NEED TO DO TO BEAT THIS LITTLE F*CKER?!"
Once again, another unfortunate armrest met its demise as Damien slams it fiercely in a fit of fury and disbelief.
Despite his narrow win against the (B) ranked Crimson Vorper, Damien still dared to challenge another (B) ranked creature, even risking his life to fight an (A-) ranked one to the bitter end as he didn't dare underestimate his mortal adversary this time.
All to ensure his victory. Yet, he still somehow lost.
To make things worse, he didn't even have time to reorganize his thoughts as a voice sounded inside his viewing station.
"Sir Damien, kindly make your way out of the viewing station and take your seat at the designated spot for the second-place winner."
Hearing the words "second-place winner", Damien's sanity finally snapped.
*BANG!"
Noisily slamming the door of his viewing station open, Damien rushed to the center of the stage with a crazy and furious look, prompting the crowd to look at him instead of his recording.
"This is bullshit! I've already hunted down an (A-) ranked creature with all my might and I refuse to accept that this guy could have done the same! I won't acknowledge this outcome until I've seen every single one of his hunts!"
