Chapter 78 072 Joint Communique

Meanwhile, people all over the world were focusing on another place in the Imperial Capital, the Great Hall where the Iridium Star Chancellor Bai Zhongqi was holding talks with representatives from China.

For Bai Zhongqi, the meeting was more ceremonially significant than substantively so. Neither party would delve deeply into discussing specific issues, similar to the 30-person delegation previously; it was merely a display of friendly gestures. Both Bai Zhongqi and the other side were somewhat restrained, and the conversation was more diplomatic.

After the closed-door meeting was a joint press conference by both parties, which was the real message intended for the public.

"...I am most pleased to have this meeting with His Majesty Bai Zhongqi, the Iridium Star United Empire Chancellor, who shares deep bonds with China. The outcomes of this meeting are rich, and its impacts will be profound, significant for establishing and deepening the bilateral relations between China and the Iridium Star United Empire.

His Majesty Bai Zhongqi and I have officially decided today to jointly issue a communiqué to formally establish diplomatic relations!"

This did not surprise the journalists and observers present since Iridium Star had already conveyed much by choosing China as the first Earth nation to formally visit.

Next was Bai Zhongqi's speech, which was the main focus for all journalists and the focus of global attention.

Bai Zhongqi stood at the lectern in his white Chancellor uniform, looking strikingly heroic. He slightly adjusted the microphone, his expression serene yet solemn, which, combined with his refined features, gave him a unique charm. Many journalists went crazy taking photos of him.

Perhaps due to the liberation of genetic advantages, Bai Zhongqi felt as if he had started to undergo physical changes in recent days, not only growing taller but also becoming more handsome.

His opening remarks were also some insubstantial pleasantries, such as being very happy to come to Earth and thanking everyone for coming. But no one dared relax their attention on his speech because a single phrase, even a single word, could determine the entire future of Earth.

"...the cordial conversation has once again strengthened my confidence in the cooperation between Iridium Star and Earth. I was born and raised on this planet; Earth is my second home. I also deeply understand the great creativity of the people on this planet, which, in the entire universe, is no less formidable compared to other advanced interstellar civilizations.

As the Iridium Star United Empire Chancellor, and as someone of partial Chinese descent from Earth, I am pleased to see the harmonious development of bilateral relations. Earthlings are gradually stepping into the universe, the universe's allure and opportunities attracting every civilization to untiring exploration.

Here, representing the Iridium Star United Empire, I invite friends who share similar values, can agree to disagree, and are sincere and friendly, to join the supranational sovereignty political entity I founded — the Iridium Star-Earth Interstellar Alliance, moving towards deep space, towards the universe.

Star Alliance will not only strive to integrate the strengths of Iridium Star and Earth to advance to other stellar systems, but it will also work to resolve Earth's issues, such as climate change, ecological pollution, wars, poverty, and hunger, and strive to create a more splendid common civilization.

The Iridium Star United Empire will open an embassy in the Imperial Capital of China, responsible for liaising with China and also covering relations with other Earth nations. We welcome, and are willing to negotiate with, Earth nations that are willing and meet the standards to join the United Empire.

Now, my country is negotiating with China to join the Alliance, and I sincerely hope that China will ultimately choose to join Star Alliance, cooperating with Iridium Star to elevate and develop the cause of civilization."

Bai Zhongqi's speech was relatively short, but the amount of information was quite substantial. Essentially, the previous speaker hadn't said anything useful; now, all the information was coming from Bai Zhongqi. The information he provided was shockingly impactful.

Iridium Star actually wants to cooperate with Earth nations? And the goal is to reach the universe, to undertake interstellar development. Almost anyone with a brain knows the immense benefits this entails. The technology in Iridium Star's hands, even what they consider trivial, would be enough for Earth to thrive for hundreds to thousands of years.

After entering the universe, acquiring resources on a planetary scale or even opening up new territories and markets would bring huge profits. Not to mention, Star Alliance will also help solve some internal problems of Earth nations. If it's a poor country clinging to this golden opportunity, the impoverished who previously had no food might eventually live better days.

Naturally, these considerations do not apply to many developed countries. They are originally uninterested in the fate of people in developing countries and how well they live.

Using common sense, such so-called cooperation could never be equal. It might even be a change in name but actually a way for Iridium Star to rule Earth. However, this form of governance is absolutely acceptable universally. Whether from groups controlling power in Earth nations or the general lower and middle classes, everyone could benefit from this system.

Throughout history, and particularly from the perspective of the West, many people have greatly misunderstood the movements of Iridium Star. In their view, although the scale of Iridium Star's fleet was somewhat small, its technological and military strength was exceptionally powerful. Observing their previous mocking interactions with the U.S.

military, conquering Earth seemed easily within their reach. This was akin to several centuries ago when Europeans discovered the New World, seized the land of the natives, and plundered all sorts of precious metals and commercially valuable resources. Some thought that, having discovered Earth, Iridium Star should do what the Europeans had done centuries before.

However, what the people of Iridium Star were doing now resembled a group of Europeans arriving in 16th-century America, encountering a group of ragged Indians, and then providing them with food, firearms, clothes, and various other items, building them warm houses, teaching them farming techniques, and even giving them sailing ships to explore the oceans.

Isn't this idiotic?

But actually, this analogy is very foolish. Because Bai Zhongqi himself was from Earth, and the people living in China were his compatriots and even family. The spirit and values of benefiting the wider world have been a long tradition in this country and its culture, somewhat similar to the more recently popular Western concept of 'with great power comes great responsibility,' but more subjective.

Essentially, the emergence of Star Alliance caught many off guard because of differences in values and motivations.

Bai Zhongqi possessed the Supreme Command, enjoying perhaps the most formidable power and combat forces on Earth, but this did not distort his personality. An adult's values, once formed, tend to be relatively stable. Those who suddenly feel omnipotent upon acquiring extraordinary powers are often immature.

Before and after obtaining the Supreme Command, the things Bai Zhongqi did might have been worlds apart, but he remained the kind-hearted senior who would take time out to tutor his junior peers; he was still the young man whose moral compass pointed him to offer help wherever feasible.

Now, instead of being able to only open a mall door for a disabled person or impart simple knowledge to an optimistic child, he could lead an entire planet's civilization, bringing richer material lives to more people, and allowing a vibrant civilization to continue thriving and growing.

In the Western civilization where people appeared civilized on the surface, they were indeed more inured to roguery. Power and law were the most solid elements sustaining Western civilization. The strong taking everything appeared to be an unbreakable truth.

But this view only comes from isolating snapshots of time, as almost all Western civilizations during their rampantly robust phases planted the seeds of their own destruction.

In Bai Zhongqi's opinion, true strength was having the power to destroy everything while also possessing the tolerance to assimilate and absorb everything.

For Bai Zhongqi and Iridium Star, conquering Earth through brute force, not to mention the trauma and slaughter it would cause, would bring limited benefits to the United Empire. Some individuals, psychologically resistant to the Empire, might take centuries to assimilate, even under coercion. Bai Zhongqi did not even know whether he would live that long.

At least, with only a few thousand people and technology, the Iridium Star United Empire might find it challenging to truly explore the galaxies of this universe within half a century, with their energies wasted in constant suppression and slaughter of Earthlings.

Destroying Earth's political structure and reconsolidating Earth's forces might not be impossible, but it would tremendously prolong the time and effort needed. Rebuilding civilization to make Earth useful to Iridium Star was an undertaking with an unknown timeframe.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

What was most detrimental, as a single-race, multi-cultural planet, Earth's greatest value to many higher interstellar civilizations might be the rich civilization that Earthlings had created over thousands of years and their extraordinary imagination. Destroying this planet would mean destroying its most valuable assets.

Moreover, the value of billions of imaginative people would drastically decline after conquest and strike.

Many civilizations proficient in psychic and mental powers in the universe had attempted racial brainwashing and enslavement. However, these civilizations ultimately perished in the long river of history, mostly defeated by civilizations like Iridium Star that possessed the ambition and continuous progress.

Even though many civilizations had deciphered the mysteries of conscious beings, none could understand why forcefully intervened consciousness (individuals of the race) would lose its most critical developmental potential, ultimately causing the civilization to lose the opportunity to advance.

People on Earth did not understand why the all-knowing, all-powerful beings of Iridium Star chose to help and treat an ant kindly. In reality, their existence was not just about the weakness of the ants but also about their narrow-mindedness.

At least in Iridium Star, even excluding the factor of the people's blind trust in the Chancellor who had led them for five thousand years, most inhabitants of Iridium Star had a broad enough vision to understand the significance of the Star Alliance to the Iridium Star United Empire, and they admired the Chancellor who proposed such a grand and tolerant plan.

As long as the Star Alliance could officially start operating, Iridium Star, within a year, could initiate exploration and colonization activities in other star systems and, within a decade, could again become a great civilization spanning several stellar systems, with a powerful fleet and continuous advancement in this new universe.
