Chapter 728: Tired [Top 5 in Golden Tickets Bonus]

'Dammit.'

Sylas looked down at the woman in his arms and made a decision.

He held Vesta up, brazenly using her as a shield.

The Professor's eyes could only open wide. She tried to scream, but with her jaw fused shut under the effects of the poison, she couldn't even do that much. All that came out was a strained shriek locked away in her throat.

BANG!

The arrow pierced into her body, but only by a small measure.

Sylas was so confident in it that he didn't even spare her a glance, his palm having stretched out toward the ball of flames flying toward him.

A strong pulse of telekinesis came from him, diverting it just enough that it felt beneath his feet.

'Not good.'

Sylas felt the Scorned Wraps stir and he hurriedly threw Vesta into the air before she was scorched to ash.

It seemed that they wouldn't even let him use a defensive item. If not for his sharp control of his intentions, Vesta would have already crumbled to ash.

But who said that he had to carry her around.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

His telekinesis caught Vesta and he swung her down toward the second arrow. This time, because he added quite some force behind Vesta, he shattered it to pieces.

BOOM!

Molten rock fell from the skies as Sylas was surrounded by enemies.

One after another government officials shot out from the portal, half chasing after him, and another half trying to escape from a sure death.

The random pulses of the Portal separated them through the air, while the eagle riders had no shot at making it to the Portal in time, so they were likely stranded in the Ruby Territory for the time being.

Sylas' gaze flashed and he reached out with his intention toward three figures within his telekinetic range.

With a violent tug, he sent them crashing into the rain of molten rock. None of them even had a chance to scream before they were torn to pieces. Their weapons, however, were another matter entirely.

With part of his mind using Vesta as a shield, and the other portions holding up rifles, he faced off against the world with a rain of fire as his backdrop.

...

In the far-off distance, Vaekra felt danger lock onto her. Her eyes widened and Runes immediately lit up across her body as she dove to the side.

PUCH. PUCH. PUCH.

Three bullets appeared, one ripping through her leg and shattering the Runes there.

As good as the special ops were at aiming, Sylas was even better.

...

'Too far.' Sylas thought to himself.

<Maddened Enlightenment> activated, causing a large amount of Aether to surge toward himself. He layered Hibernation Halo on top of it as he thought about his next move.

Unfortunately, there wasn't much of a choice.

No matter what, Vaekra had to die.

Now.

He was certain that she was the one who had his Overlord Quest and he couldn't allow that to keep looming over his head.

BANG!

A bullet shot through the air and ripped a hole through the forehead of a special op setting up a shot.

Sylas pierced through the air.

He hadn't been able to truly bask in the feeling before, but flying through the air under his own power...

It was truly freeing.

Arrows pierced through the air toward him, their bodies ripping through the skies with far more Aether than ever before.

Danger signs blared in Sylas' mind, but he knew that it wasn't coming from the arrows.

'Distraction.'

Sylas came to an abrupt stop, his eyes releasing a pulse of light. Soon, a net of Runes appeared right before his eyes.

'Trap.'

BANG!

Sylas cast <Ice Banned Shield> with a thought, his speed so fast that it was near

instantaneous.

A bullet ripped through it, but by the time it had, it had slowed enough for Sylas' tail to slap out, knocking it out of the air.

A second bullet fired... but this one was from Sylas himself, ending in another hole through the head of a special corps member.

...

'He saw through it.' Vaekra grit her teeth.

A pulse came from her leg and the bullet was ejected. With another, the wound began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye.

She had thought that she could lure Sylas in with this injury, but in the end, she had failed.

If tricks weren't going to work... then she was just going to have to do things the old fashioned

way.

Originally, this was supposed to be used to give her the final push she would need to escape from here. The action of the Dogons would certainly alert the stronger organizations of Earth to take action when they normally wouldn't.

But... this was too important. And with Kyreth's death, they had already lost too much.

Vaekra pulled out a vial and downed it in one go.

There was a ripple of vitality that extended from her, and her waning aura seemed to increase

by leaps and bounds.

The weakness of her body vanished and all of her wounds healed in the blink of an eye.

Runes began to rise from her skin, mending themselves.

Quickly, Vaekra was back to her peak condition and she exhaled a breath.

This wouldn't last for long and she knew it. Such powerful healing Elixirs rarely came without side effects, and benefiting from Elixirs while not a member of an Overlord Race was several

times more difficult.

Using it now, her escape would be several times more dangerous. But if she could manage to gain Overlord status, there would be many options that opened up to her.

She would go out right here and now.

...

Sylas stood in the skies facing off against the barrier blocking him from getting to one of the exits that would lead him out of here.

His eyes bounced back and forth between the Runes, scanning them with such speed it didn't

look like he was reading at all.

'There.'

Sylas was about to act when he frowned.

"I've had enough of you."

His body vanished in a swirling mass of Glass Aether. Ice blue sand danced through the air.

Bullets ripped holes through the cloud, but there was already no Sylas to speak of.

Sylas himself had already appeared on the ground.

Linzie reacted quickly, having already seen this skill of Sylas' before. She swung out with the

butt of her rifle, kicking her heel up toward her back and sending her spear flying up and out of

its holster.

She had the practiced actions of a veteran.

The moment Sylas appeared, the rifle was already swinging toward him. It was an odd movement choice when firing would have been more effective, but the fear of Sylas had already been ingrained into her very psyche. She didn't feel like simple tactics would work

anymore.

A pulse of wind had already wrapped around her soaring spear, redirecting and pointing its blade down toward Sylas' head.

Wind Aether picked up the Fire Aether in the arm, fueling it with a cyclone of flames that shot

down toward Sylas' head.

Sylas blocked the butt of the rifle with an elbow, his gaze almost dull as it met Linzie's.

"DIE!"

PUCHI!

Linzie froze as her own spear tore through her upper back, blasting a hole through her and

spearing her into the ground.

She coughed up a mouthful of blood and her legs gave out from underneath her, but her spear

held her up.

Sylas' gaze flashed, his head leaning backward as an arrow whizzed by.

With a sharp intent in his eyes, he looked toward a location as dense smog and smoke

separated to reveal Vaekra.
