Chapter 602: Towering Mountain
Chapter 602: Towering Mountain
Day after day Adam made sure to take a trip to the Coil of Eternity, trying to overcome his fear of snakes.
Just like Professor Whitaker had said to him, he was slowly but surely overcoming his fears. But the fact that it would take him, a Rank 2 - Mana Liquefaction Magus, so long to stand the sight of serpents hurt his pride.
Several years ago, he faced a werewolf whose strength was equivalent to that of a rank 3- Mana Vortex Magus. He had fought the being and defeated him head-on.
Yet, in front of a mere snake whose strength was no more than a Rank 2 Magus, he found that he couldn't stand his ground for a few seconds. But gradually, he was overcoming this.
On the seventh day when he had arrived at the Coil of Eternity-this time, at a different location than the previous time-he faced off against hundreds of snakes. His arrival had greatly disturbed them, after all.
He looked them in the eye and evaded all of their attacks. He didn't strike back at all. Adam had to make his stance clear - he was not here to make enemies. If anything, he was here to seek cooperation. Thus, he couldn't attack them whatsoever.
On the eighth day, he faced off against a powerful water serpent. This one was enormous in size, slightly bigger than the black snake in the forest whom he had encountered when he'd come to the plane the first time.
Adam found that although he felt nervous standing before a serpentine creature, it wasn't as bad as before. There was a hint of fear in the depths of his heart, but he overcame it.
Once again, he played around with this giant water serpent, making fun of it and greatly angering it in the process.
Like he did the previous times, he didn't counterattack. He dodged all of the serpent's attacks before disappearing from the plane.
There was a reason as to why he was doing what he was doing.
Finally, on the tenth day, he sat down at the center of the runic formation that led to the Spirit World, his face calm and his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
I'm sure one of these days a very powerful snake will notice my constant arrival. I just hope it's that snake. According to the memories of that Magus, that snake was the most amiable of them all, he thought.
If things go according to the way I imagine, it is highly likely that I'll be summoned by that snake within the next couple of times I visit the plane.
Arriving at the mysterious Coil of Eternity once could be considered a happenstance. One could still overlook it if it happened twice. But ten times? That too at ten different locations?n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Adam was sure that the serpents further up in the hierarchy of that plane would notice something amiss. They would be curious as to how a human from the material world had acquired the whereabouts of their home.
The one looking over such matters just so happened to be a friendly old snake whom Adam had seen multiple times in that Magus's memories.
Although the yellow-eyed Magus's memories were greatly fragmented, Adam was able to glean very crucial intel about the plane of serpents. And that was precisely what he was betting on.
After confirming everything was in order, he took a deep breath and weaved a simple hand sign, activating the runic formation and opening the portal to the Spirit World.
...
In a secret underground cave somewhere in the Coil of Eternity, a colossal snake with white scales lay coiled atop a smooth, glimmering stone that jutted out of the ground.
This serpent had two long whiskers sprouting above its maw, giving it the appearance of someone with a long mustache.
The colossal creature seemed to be deep asleep at the moment, but suddenly its eyes snapped open, revealing its yellow irises and the black vertical pupils that had narrowed into slits.
"I sense a passageway being formed from the material world," it spoke in a deep and raspy voice. "Could this perhaps be that human that I've been hearing about lately?"
A moment later, invisible waves of energy emerged from the serpent's head. Although it appeared as if nothing had happened as a result, the truth was far from it.
Without even moving an inch, the serpent had changed the coordination where Adam was supposed to land! Earlier, he was about to land near the boundaries of the plane, but now he was going to arrive right before the white snake.
This was a shocking display of power showcased by an ancient creature residing in the depths of the mysterious Coil of Eternity!
Before long, a small tear appeared in the underground cave. Gradually, the portal stabilized and Adam emerged from within. He looked around at the dark cave in confusion. As his vision adjusted to the dark, his heartbeat rose and he thought of a possibility.
Could this be...
"Identify yourself, little human." A booming voice resonated within the cave, causing Adam to involuntarily shudder.
The giant snake had spoken in Ethor-the most commonly used language among the many races of the Greater Universe!
The raven-haired youth found himself standing before a towering mountain. But gradually, he realized that it wasn't a mountain at all, but an enormous white snake that was gazing at him with intense scrutiny.
Although there was no hostility in the serpent's eyes, Adam still couldn't help but feel that he had been drenched in a bucket of cold water. He had never stood before someone with such monstrous size. He could feel an invisible pressure bearing down on him.
Even though the serpent was lying still, it was nonetheless emitting an aura of immense strength and authority.
Adam stole a glance at the two long whiskers on the white snake's face, confirming to himself that what he had been hoping for all this while had indeed come true.
Calm down! Calm down! This is exactly what I wanted. He looks the same as in the memories of that Magus! Now, I just need to use the script that I've already prepared, he said to himself.
He bowed deeply, his body shivering from fear and panic. "M-My Lord, I am a humble Magus from Tron! My name is Adam Constantine!"
The giant white snake moved its head closer toward him, looking down at him with eyes that sparkled with surprise and amusement.
"Adam Constantine of Tron, how is it that you know our language? From what I can surmise from your soul body, you are not one of us."
Adam had specifically made sure to speak in snaketongue. Now that he had finally piqued the snake's interest, he was finally going to make things easier for himself.
"Great serpent, I learned snaketongue from a legacy left behind a powerful Magus," he said.
"And who might that be?" The white snake pressed.
Adam hid a smirk that was about to form on his face as he answered.
"Magus Syvarin Ven'mir."
