Chapter 123 You Think You Have Me?
Fox emerged from the shadows with her fox mask glinting under the moonlight. Her graceful, kimono-clad figure exuded a calm yet sinister aura.
Beside her, the demon-masked man stepped out with his large frame covering them both
"Hello, Aleman," Fox greeted with a chilling and nonchalant tone. "We finally meet."
August gritted his teeth, struggling against the grip of the decoy. He shifted his focus to Fox. "So, this is how you operate? Sending your lackeys to do your dirty work?"
Fox tilted her head with a look of amusement in her eyes. "Tori and Zach served their purpose. Now you serve yours."
"We've been waiting for this moment for quite some time."
August tried to break free, but the scarred man's grip was unyielding. The demon-masked man chuckled deeply.
"You've been a hard one to track down," he said. "But here you are. Right where we want you."
Fox stepped closer. Her piercing eyes locked onto August's visor.
"You've caused us quite the trouble," she continued. "But don't worry, Aleman. This is where it ends. You're going to help us whether you like it or not."
The scarred man tightened his grip, and August felt his strength waning.
"What do you want?"
Fox's unnerving calmness made her the most dangerous of the trio.
"What do we want?" she repeated August's question, her tone almost playful. "We've noticed something extraordinary about you, Aleman. You've been selling items that don't have the retrieve-to-reality function. Items that shouldn't exist outside of Enders Light."
August remained silent. His helmet concealed his expression. He felt her next words would be dangerously close to the truth.
Fox tilted her head while smirking under the mask. "That silence confirms it. You can extract anything from Enders Light, can't you?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," August responded with a voice modulated by his helmet.
The brute holding him tightened his grip, causing August to wince slightly.
"Enough games," Fox stated. "We want you to join the Oni. Someone with your ability would be invaluable to us."
"I'm not interested," August said firmly. "I'm a businessman, not a terrorist."
Fox's calm demeanor began to crack as her voice turned cold. "Think carefully, Aleman. You have no idea what you're refusing. The Oni are more than a group—we are the future pioneers of this world. Refuse us, and you'll find yourself with nowhere to run. We have you already so it's up to you to either agree to be one of us willingly or unwillingly..."
August smirked beneath his helmet. "You think you have me? Think again."
At that moment, a dozen brilliant torchlights flickered on, illuminating the entire alley. Shouts echoed from all directions, and Fox's group turned sharply to see they were surrounded by law enforcement officers.
"Oni terrorists! You are surrounded! Drop your weapons and surrender!" a commanding voice bellowed.
The officers emerged from every conceivable hiding place—rooftops, alleyways, flowerbeds, and nearby buildings. Their weapons were trained on the Oni members as their presence overwhelmed the place.
The brute released his grip on August, and he fell forward slightly before catching his balance. He stepped away from the brute, brushing off his cloak with deliberate nonchalance.
Fox's eyes darted around, assessing the situation. Her shadowy abilities flickered faintly at her fingertips as she calculated her next move. The brute growled lowly, while the demon-masked Oni member stood quietly in place. His demeanor remained unbothered.
Fox glanced back at August as her calm exterior wanned a bit. "You... planned this?"
"Let's just say," August adjusted his helmet, "you're not the only ones who know how to strategize."

(Two Days Earlier)
In the luxurious Whitford estate, August sat across from Victor Whitford's father, a blue-eyed man whose presence radiated power and authority.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
August had his Aleman outfit on so his face wasn't visible.
The plush office reeked of wealth, with mahogany furniture, gold accents, and the soft sound of air conditioning.
"You're telling me my son is being held by the Oni?" Mr. Whitford questioned with a cold tone, masking a storm of emotions.
"Yes," August responded firmly. "Victor has been trying to contact me for weeks. When I finally listened to his voicemail, I realized the situation was dire."
Mr. Whitford's jaw tightened. "Why would they abduct him?"
"They want me," August admitted. "and they're using your son as leverage to lure me out."
"And you're willing to help my son?" Mr. Whitford's gaze narrowed as he asked.
August leaned forward. "I don't appreciate being strong-armed, and I'm not about to let my customer suffer because of me. I have a plan, but I'll need your resources and connections to pull it off."
Mr. Whitford stared at August for a long moment before nodding. "What do you need?"

(Back in the Alley)
"Last chance!" the commanding officer shouted. "Surrender and get on your knees!"
The officers stood ready, their weapons trained on the dark van parked in the dimly lit alley. The large man who was initially strapped to the stretcher, slowly stepped out, holding August by the throat like a ragdoll.
August gasped for air as his feet dangled while he was brought into the open.
Fox stood beside the van with the demon-masked man standing behind her as her sharp eyes darted between the officers and her allies. She whispered hurriedly to the demon-masked man.
"We retreat. Now," she hissed.
The demon-masked man growled lowly as his eyes suddenly emitted a green glow like an otherworldly flame.
Meanwhile, the large man holding August smirked. Without a word, he hurled August several feet through the air. August crashed onto the pavement, rolling until he stopped near the line of officers.
"Open fire!" shouted the commanding officer.
The officers unleashed a hail of bullets as Fox and the demon-masked man turned to flee. The demon-masked man stepped in front of Fox with his body undergoing a strange transformation.
Greenish scales phased out of his back, neck, and head. The bullets ricocheted off him like pebbles against steel upon collision.
He suddenly turned around and sent a punch hurling at the wall on the other end.
It instantly blasted open and Fox charged forward, through the hole created.
The lights were initially a problem since her supernatural abilities were shadow-related but now that she was in a building, she had enough shadow to work with. Experience new stories on empire
Fox smirked as her hands moved gracefully while she began summoning a sea of shadows beneath her feet. The darkness expanded, writhing like living tendrils.
"Buy me time," she ordered.
The demon-masked man nodded as his towering figure continued shielding her from harm. Behind them, the large man stumbled to follow lumbering slowly, as he approached the hole blasted into the wall.
However, before they could fully escape, a bright flash illuminated the alley.
"Not so fast!" August yelled before firing a lightning bolt directly at the large man.
The bolt struck with precision, lighting up the darkness as it slammed into the large man sending him flying through the hole.
He roared in pain as his body convulsed while the electrical surge coursed through him. His left arm was torn from his body as he rammed into the ground. He fell unconscious immediately.
Fox froze momentarily as her shadow ability was disrupted by the flash of lightning.
"We gotta go!" she snapped at the demon-masked man upon noticing that the officers were closing in fast.
The demon-masked man snarled. He turned to face August who was also approaching.
"You're becoming a nuisance, Aleman."
He lunged at August with his scaled fist smashing into the ground where August had been standing a moment ago.
Using Dash, August evaded the attack, the ability allowing him to move in a blur of speed.
"Even my grandma can move faster than that... And guess what? She's dead," August taunted before firing another lightning bolt.
The bolt struck the demon-masked man directly in the chest, cracking the surface of his scales. He staggered briefly but regained his balance as his eyes narrowed.
"You'll regret that," the demon-masked man growled before charging forward.
August summoned the fiery sword he had acquired initially. Its blade ignited with a bright, searing flame as he prepared to clash with the demon-masked man.
The two clashed causing the sound of metal striking scales echoing through the alley. The demon-masked man's strength was immense. Each blow forced August to sidestep or block with all his might.
Meanwhile, Fox had managed to get far ahead and extended her hands again in a dark environment. Shadows began to crawl around her as she activated her ability.
"She's trying to escape!" one of the officers shouted.
"I've got her!" August yelled, activating Dash again to close the distance between him and Fox.
Before he could reach her, the demon-masked man intercepted him, swinging a heavy-scaled arm. August ducked just in time as the force of the swing grazed the top of his helmet.
"Stay out of my way!" August growled before slashing upward with the fiery sword. The blade connected, shattering the demon-masked man's weakened scales.
The demon-masked man roared, stumbling backward as flames engulfed his chest. He dropped to his knees while screaming in agony.
"Arrgghh!!"
