Chapter 382 Did You See, Master?
William looked to the sky with a hint of worry. He couldn't sense his opponent at all, which meant either he was too far away to be spotted by his Life Sense, or William's various X-Rank Talents weren't enough.
Either way, it was an indicator that the enemy Cultivator was probably the strongest opponent he had ever faced. That being said...
"If you think you can threaten any one of my Companions and get away with it, you're sorely mistaken!" William shouted angrily.
"Threaten? I'll do more than threaten!" Juhi replied. In the distance, a group of golden clouds condensed into a ball and shot a ten-kilometer-wide pillar of Light Mana in a certain direction.
William narrowed his eyes as he traced the path of the pillar, realizing it was headed directly towards the Azures Continent. If he wasn't sure before, he knew which Magical Beast Juhi was referring to now.
"Atticus!" he cried out as the Light Mana arrived at the Azures continent in an instant. At the same time, the massive Tier 6 Array Formation that lined the Azures Continent lit up, a massive barrier forming in the path of the Light Mana.
Boom!
Your next chapter is on empire
The barrier intercepted the Light Mana perfectly, absorbing the impact of the Ascended Cultivator's attack at the cost of its own stability. The Tier 6 Arrays cracked all over, and it probably wouldn't be able to defend against a second attack at the same level.
William didn't sit idle and used his newly upgraded X-Rank Space Magic create a long-distance portal, pouring hundreds of Mana into the Spell despite all of his Mana Efficiency buffs. At the same time, he ordered Uri through the System to hide, as he wouldn't be able to protect both Companion Beasts at the same time.
"Damned mortal Realms. Of course you'd have a Tier 6 Defensive Array Formation. Well, no matter." Juhi muttered as he conjured a second identical Light Pillar and sent it forward.
The already weakened Array Formation couldn't handle a second attack at such a level in a short amount of time, shattering to pieces while the Light Pillar continued towards Blue Moon City.
Atticus had already noticed the first attack and was on guard, but seeing a second one so soon made him realize it was just a casual strike from the Ascended Cultivator.
The Mythic Rat Snake looked at the city only a few kilometers away from him. It could see many Cultivators and non-Cultivators alike looking to the sky in awe, but clearly none of them understood the gravity of the matter.
If Atticus didn't do something, the entire Blue Moon City would be wiped out by Juhi's attack. William's long-distance portal was opening next to him, but Atticus could tell that William wouldn't arrive in time.
It's up to me to save them. Atticus realized as he opened the Territory of Illusion to its maximum capacity.
Clouds of purple Mana enveloped the area a few kilometers around Atticus, separating the region within from the rest of the World. Just like Atticus' ability that allowed him to phase through solid objects, he channeled his Mana into doing the same for Blue Moon City.
The cloud covered ninety percent of the city, but there was still a large portion that Atticus couldn't reach even with his Mana Reserves. He pushed as far as he could, but he was only able to make up for an additional five percent.
The Elemental Territories were supposed to cover a radius as large as the respective Domain, but it was still dependent on the amount of Mana available to the user. Atticus didn't have the insane Mana Reserves that William did, nor did he have even a fraction of his Master's Mana Regeneration, so his efficiency when using the Illusion Territory was greatly reduced.
In the remaining five percent of Blue Moon's territory, Atticus spotted a gentle woman with medium-length black hair. She looked to be in her thirties, but he wasn't focused on her age. Instead, Atticus noticed that this woman's aura was very similar to William's, indicating a biological relationship.
It was Misha. Though Atticus had never met the woman a day in his life, he could tell at a glance that it was William's mother. A tear formed in the snake's eye as he realized a difficult choice needed to be made.
I can save everyone, but... I can't save myself.
He sent a message through the System to William.
Master, I'm counting on you. He said as Atticus excluded himself from his own Illusion Territory, using the extra Mana to cover the last of Blue Moon City.
The Pillar of Light crashed down from above and landed directly on Atticus' back. The Spell condensed to a small area around a meter wide to focus its piercing power, slicing through his tough scales in an instant.
A massive hole appeared on an area just below the base of Atticus' head, blood spurting forth and showering the environment for kilometers. The Mythic Rat Snake's eyes shuddered for a moment, before Atticus fell over to the side.
The Illusion Territory began to fade away, but Atticus had successfully protected Blue Moon City. He smiled weakly seeing that he had protected everyone.
I did my good deed. Did you see me, Master? Atticus thought as he lost consciousness.
-Your Companion Beast (Atticus) is severely injured.
William's vision was met with an ominous System Message the moment he passed through the long-distance portal. His hands shook slightly as tears welled up in his eyes, memories of his first Companion Beast resurfacing.
He remembered when Atticus was first hatched in a simple hotel room of Blue Moon City, the tiny snake that was evaluated as Mythic right from the start coiling around his fingertips as it inspected its new Master.
He remembered fighting with Atticus many times, from the Blue Moon City guards when he was but a naive boy that had gained some power, to the Foam Desert. Afterwards, William had traveled with Atticus to the Five Elements Sect, explored the Gravitas Ruins, and eventually moved on to dominate the rest of the World with overwhelming strength.
For almost the entirety of William's journey, Atticus had been there. Either to eat omelettes with him and listen to his thoughts or help him practice his Magic. Companion Beast aside, Atticus could be considered William's closest friend, and something about the current situation made William feel...
Angry.
William's Humanity statistic fluctuated slightly, while his eyes turned deep red and his fists clenched tightly. A moment later, William's eyes returned to their normal color, but only because he wanted to be in control while looking at his opponent's pitiful face.
"Ahaha! You see that, weakling? You can't even protect your Beast. In fact, he's about to die because he protected someone else. How noble of him..." Juhi laughed from above, though William still had no idea where the Cultivator was.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
System, find him for me.

Just do it.

-He's merged with the golden clouds above you. You can reveal him if you disperse the clouds.
William smiled viciously upon seeing the System's quick response. He opened his Life Domain and covered Atticus to stabilize his condition, then looked at the golden clouds.
"Juhi, right? Congratulations, you've been chosen for a promotion. Your new position will be...
Corpse."
