Chapter 37 The spinning technique
The skeleton immediately became a blur, making Xander confused.
It seemed that the skeleton was moving in irregular patters that was both confusing and overwhelming.
At the same time it swung it's scythe while spinning, making the force and speed much higher than what Xander could overcome and before Xander knew it, he was backed to a wall.
He looked forward again to see the blade of the scythe coming towards him horizontally to claim his life.
At the last second Xander ducked and jumped out of the way. He immediately ran out of the misty area and the reaper didn't follow him at all.
It stayed there and didn't come forward anymore and Xander sighed.
"It's fast and skillful with that scythe. I can't defeat it even if it's on my level." Xander said with furrowed brows.
The way the reaper moved and the way it wielded it's weapon was as if the reaper and the scythe were one.
So far this is the only creature in this caves that Xander had encountered that could fight with orderliness.
"Let's test the waters again." Xander said as he ran back to fight the reaper.
This time he didn't last more than a minute before he retreated again. The reaper was just too good with that weapon.
Xander sat down and hunted a small creature and them made a barbecue before starting to train in wielding the spear like the reaper.
"To match it's skill I also need to be able to wield my weapon well." Xander said and spun the Bringer of death, causing wind the blow outwards and spreading dust.
This became his routine now. He would go into the mist area to fight the reaper and he will lose, he would then train again in wielding his spear.
As time passed Xander became more familiar with the technique the reaper used. The reaper's movements were extremely tricky and confusing. Sometimes when Xander wants to block the weapon it would move at irregular and impossible angles, almost causing Xander his life.
Xander didn't know how much time has passed outside the caves but he stood up again and walked to the misty area.
"You have to know your opponent to defeat your opponent." He said as he walked into the misty area again.
He wasn't sure whether he said the proverb well but he still remembered it and put it in his own words.
Xander held his spear at his back and looked around. He suddenly felt a strong wind behind him and waved his spear horizontally towards his back.
The attack was so fast that a normal human would only see a flash before they died.
The reaper whose head the spear was going to take suddenly stabbed the hook of it's scythe in the floor.
Xander's spear hit the blade and due to it being stuck in the ground it didn't move at all.
'It's also smart.' Xander thought as he saw it remove it's scythe upwards and brought it down towards his head.
Xander rarely managed to escape that last attack but he learned something from the fight today. The reaper always strikes to kill.
Almost all the time it's either that the reaper targets his neck, head, or balls which was not funny.
"If I want to defeat it then I have to master the technique it uses." Xander said and then began practicing with his spear.
Normally, in games like this no one actually needs to learn skills and can just wave a weapon around and fight.
Only a few games allows that but they weren't too popular in the game industry. But League of Guardians features strategy, fantasy, war, and battle arena type of games which was why it got so popular in just a few days.
Who knew that the game that they enjoyed would turn out to become a nightmare. Xander could already imagine the people with weak willpower committing suicide or even dieing from monster attacks.
"I must leave this game. My mom struggles everyday and I also need to take care of her one day. I must survive." Xander said as he walked towards the mist area once more.
Again, the reaper appeared from his side with the scythe already close to his neck.
Xander expected this and blocked with his spear vertically. He stood his ground and didn't move at all.
The reaper's bright green eyes flashed brightly as it suddenly got faster. It began spinning the scythe non-stop while striking the scythe that now looked like a flat disk at Xander.
The result was the same today again. It seemed that the reaper was playing with him before and he saw it's true speed and skills today.
The strength of the reaper resided in it's skill, speed, and incredible scythe wielding ability.
Xander looked forward and then the scene of the skeleton reaper spinning it's scythe replayed in his head and he followed the steps slowly.
Xander went to find other low levelled monsters to practice his wielding ability of his spear. He no longer just stabbed and swung but instead used the spinning skills of the reaper.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
He spun the spear while striking it towards the creatures. He recalled the reaper spinning it's body so fast that he couldn't use the opening when the reaper turned.
Xander clearly saw the back of the reaper when it twisted and before he could even strike he saw the scythe coming towards his head from the side.
"Not... fast... enough!" Xander brought the axe down and splitted a centipede's head into two.
"I'm still not turning fast enough." Xander said as he sat on the floor. A sweat drop trickled down his temples.
"I can't give up. I have to defeat the reaper. If I do I would have enough skill to face the manticore." Xander said and stood up as he walked towards the mist area again.
He let out a deep breath and he ran into the mist area. Unlike normal, the reaper came from his front this time instead of above or behind.
The blade of the scythe cut the air as it came down with a subtle whistle; the sound of it cutting the air. Xander didn't jump to the side or evade the scythe and instead jumped forward.
Xander twisted and stuck the spear at the reaper with great speed.
To his utmost shock, the spear tore the cloak of the reaper to reveal a single spine connecting to the ribcages above.
If he had just gone closer his spear would have reached the spine and broke the body.
His eyes caught a green crystal in the middle of it's ribcages and his brows furrowed.
Xander didn't get too much time to look at it though as a scythe came from his side, making him to raise his spear in defence.
Because he was on the air he got knocked away out of the mist area.
Despite his loss Xander still had a wide grin on his face. "I finally know how to defeat you."
What do you think?
