Because the event was a competition, from preliminary rounds to semi-finals and finally the championship, the two schools coordinated events for more than a month. After the competition ended, Huang Qichu continued to keep in touch with her.

After finishing dinner in the evening, she was listlessly scrolling through some crappy TV series when her mobile rang. It was Huang Qichu: “Feifei, are you home? I’m downstairs.”

Xue Feifei was startled, quickly changed her clothes and rushed downstairs. Sure enough, Huang Qichu was there in his earthy woolen hat and scarf, grinning broadly the moment he saw her, “I just got back from out of town. I was wondering… if you’re not busy, I… I was thinking of buying some books for next semester.”

Coming all the way back on Valentine’s Day to buy books? Thankfully, it gets dark early in winter. After dinner, it was only half-past six, and the bookshops usually close at ten.

She nodded, “Sure.”

So the two really went to a bookstore and bought a ton of textbooks. When they finally left the bookstore, it was ten o’clock.

Huang Qichu was carrying a huge bag of books. He hailed a taxi to take her home first. But there was a section of road under construction near the Xue family’s house. The taxi couldn’t go through, so they had to walk.
