“Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl, Chairman?”

“Alert the police.” Xin Zaozao commanded.

“Won’t reporting it to the police blow the matter out of proportion? We are living in the era of mass media and anything can be blown out of proportion any moment, I fear the negative consequences for our company.”

“To achieve justice, we must rely on the police.”

After a moment of hesitation, the voice at the other end agreed, “Alright, I will report it to the police right away.”

“Are you present at the site?”

“Ms. Chairman, the situation here is pretty chaotic. You are pregnant, I suggest you do not come over. I fear the villagers might get a little too excited…”

She gritted her teeth and stepped out of the car.

The driver opened an umbrella to shield Xin Zaozao from the rain and accompanied her towards the village.

Due to the rain, the roads in the village were muddy and somewhat hard to navigate. The mud got all over Xin Zaozao’s flats. The roads were also slippery, and the driver was afraid that she might fall. But Xin Zaozao seemed unfazed as they made their way to the scene of the dispute.

When they arrived, the police were maintaining order, the media was conducting interviews, and the villagers were willing interviewees. No one from her side dared to speak to the media.

Xin Zaozao walked over.

Chen Wenzhong quickly approached her, “Ms. Chairman.”

“What’s the situation now?”

A villager shouted furiously, “Shameless enterprise, pay us back!”

“Return our money! Or we will wreck everything that you constructed!”

“No payback, no one leaves today!”

Suddenly, it was chaos.

Everyone quieted down for a moment.

Everyone looked at her.

They weren’t sure whether to believe her but seemed to have no choice but to do so.

The absconding of the contractor with the funds is in no way connected to us. In fact, we too are victims. I request you all to consider our plight from the same perspective.”

“Why should we consider for you when no one considers for us?” An angry villager replied, “I told you right from the start, not to involve these enterprises. The previous fraud isn’t even settled and now we are being deceived again.”

“As I just mentioned, I will compensate for all your financial losses. But I need your trust!” Xin Zaozao spoke into the megaphone, raising her voice.
