Chapter 390: Mt. Chimney’s special training Part II
“Beautifly, you’ve worked hard teaching them during this time.”
Terrance thanked Beautifly before continuing, “Your past training has been nothing short of dedicated effort toward the Pokémon Contest, but because of that, you and Mismagius share the same weakness.”
“In terms of explosive power, you’re no match for Altaria, Arcanine, Gallade, or Castform.”
“If you want to get stronger, that’s where we need to focus.”
After a moment of thought, Terrance said, “Mismagius excels in energy control, and you possess top-tier coordination skills along with your Airflow Perception. They put you both at the peak in certain areas. However, if you could develop explosive power comparable to Altaria and the others, your strength would make a massive leap!”
Whether it was Beautifly’s coordination techniques or Mismagius’s illusion skills, both were unique and have highly strong individual styles. Unfortunately, they lacked decisive, high-powered moves in battle—a weakness Terrance had pointed out.
Mismagius had always centered its training around illusion skills and had already achieved impressive results. Now, Terrance was considering training its other moves to increase their power. When combined with illusion skills, the stalling effect of illusion skills can be maximized!
As for Beautifly, Terrance’s feelings were more complicated. For a while, he had considered letting Beautifly take a break at the Gym, accompanying everyone at Old Green House. Yet, Beautifly’s actions time and again showed its desire to continue fighting alongside Terrance in other fields.
Reflecting on himself, Terrance finally decided to climb another peak with Beautifly, even though the path would undoubtedly be more challenging.
Compared to Mismagius, who needed to develop a few high-powered moves, Beautifly would likely have to put in even more effort.“Mismagius, you’ve already learned Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball. Your main task now is to enhance the power of these two moves. After that, to broaden your arsenal, I’ll have you learn a few more moves. Don’t worry, they are easy to learn: Mystical Fire, Power Gem, and Magical Leaf.”
Terrance explained. These moves were the ones that Mismagius could learn the most easily. However, after its evolution, Terrance and Mismagius had been entirely focused on honing its illusion skills, neglecting other moves to the point where they hadn’t even tried to learn them. Most of their battles also relied on illusion skills, so it was understandable that Mismagius hadn’t learned them on its own. Terrance, however, was confident that Mismagius could learn these three moves within three days!
Learning Mystical Fire, Power Gem, and Magical Leaf for Mismagius would be a hundred times easier than Arcanine learning Wild Charge!
After Mismagius learned Mystical Fire, Power Gem, and Magical Leaf, Terrance also planned for it to learn Psychic. However, this would be significantly more challenging. He also wanted Beautifly and the others to learn Confusion, which was part of the same training system as Psychic. For now, Terrance was not in a hurry and planned to take his time.
Finally, Terrance focused most of his energy on Gallade and Castform.
Their training could be described as both simple and complex at the same time.
Terrance has been trying to help Gallade learn a new move, but so far, there hasn’t been much progress.
By all accounts, given his guidance, Gallade should have learned a new move by now, but this wish has not yet been fulfilled.
Terrance could only sigh and accept that perhaps it would take more time—just like with Slash move.
“Keep training Slash and Teleport,” Terrance could only give this order, while at the same time trying every method he could think of to teach Gallade other moves that could be used based on “blade”.
Training Slash and Teleport wasn’t pointless as Slash also honed Gallade’s blades. Various moves share similar attack patterns, suggesting that Gallade’s current training was laying the foundation for all future battles. It is both foundational training and training that can be applied to actual combat.
When Gallade finally learned new moves, such as Leaf Blade, the foundation built by Slash would fully show its value. Gallade would undoubtedly become proficient much faster!
After Terrance explained these principles to Gallade, it nodded silently and carried out his orders flawlessly. There was no trace of laziness; in fact, Gallade pushed itself even harder during training.
Watching his Pokémon work so diligently, besides investing resources, Terrance could only accompany them by side at all times—nothing more than that.
“Cast~form~.” Castform had floated out from the cotton feathers of Altaria and was now hovering in the air.
“When do you think you’ll be able to extract the effects of Mystic Water, Damp Rock, Heat Rock, Smooth Rock, and Icy Rock and make them your own?” Terrance asked, voicing something that had long been troubling him.
As soon as the words left his mouth, it wasn’t just him feeling troubled—Castform also appeared troubled, showing a pained expression.
“Hahaha…” Terrance laughed. “Like I always say, take it slow. If we could pull that off, I’d already be a Senior Breeder! It’s not that easy.”
“Do you remember the thing we saw on Mr. Norman’s Castform? Ice Gem!”n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“A treasure that could fully drain its energy in one use and enhance the power of moves of its corresponding type. Now that we’ve got more money, we can consider buying one and combining it with Mystic Water and Damp Rock for further research.”
Terrance knew that these types of gems originated in the Unova and Kalos Region and were difficult to obtain in Hoenn. However, he found the differences between these special items and the treasures available locally to be quite fascinating. His interest had been sparked early on, but his lack of funds had made acquiring treasures from such far away places impossible.
These gems came in various types, with Ice Gem being just one of them.
The principle behind all of them was the same: they could completely drain their internal energy in one use to enhance the power of moves of a corresponding type. Afterward, the gem’s energy would gradually recover, with the recovery rate depending on how well the local environment matched the gem’s type.
In contrast, Mystic Water affects the power of Water-type moves, but once its energy is used up, it doesn’t recover. Neither Terrance nor Castform has observed any recovery in Mystic Water’s energy.
The same applied to Damp Rock; once its energy was used, it couldn’t recover.
“Perhaps there’s nothing to discover, or maybe it’s the key. But it’s worth a try,” Terrance thought, already planning to buy a Water Gem through his channels, provided the price is reasonable.
“Additionally, after resolving the Gym matters, I should go take a look at the place where Smooth Rock was found in the ruins,” Terrance pondered.
At this point, Terrance could only think of two paths to further enhance Castform’s strength. Its strength improvement largely depends on external objects.
Dragonair’s Dragon Orb is the most important external object that has changed Castform’s fate!
“Continue practicing the transition between Rainy Weather and Snowy Weather, and simultaneously increase the intensity of training using Snowy Weather alone. At the same time, Hurricane, Thunder, and Hydro Pump need to undergo more rigorous training. Oh, and remember—no Rain Dance this time,” Terrance said.
“Additionally, you need to start learning Ice Beam during this period.”
Ignoring Castform’s resentful look, Terrance finalized the short-term training plans for his Pokémon and felt a sense of relief.
As long as they carried out the plans diligently, he was confident they would achieve significant progress in a few months!
After making all the arrangements, Terrance arranged for Altaria to challenge its mother, and after winning, it would enter high-intensity training while continuing to improve the Erase Technique.
