Chapter 51 - 46 Unlocking a New Character
The first mixer of university life had both boys and girls pulling out all the stops—even Li Qiang donned his only piece of Adidas branded clothing.
You know, school had been in session for five or six days, and this was the first time anyone had seen Li Qiang in something that looked decent.
The two dorms agreed to meet at the school gate. Aside from Li Qiang and Chang Hao, who were dressed somewhat flashily, Zhou Yuwen and Lu Yuhang were dressed pretty ordinarily.
The two of them walked behind while Li Qiang and Chang Hao couldn’t wait to lead the way.
Li Qiang said, "Brother Hao, you and Brother Zhou are about to ditch the single life, you’ve got to help me out this time!"
"Help you? How so?"
"Help me chase after Shen Yu!"
"Oh, that? No problem, no problem, consider it done."
"Hehe, I knew Brother Hao was the best to me!"
Having reached a basic agreement, they had now arrived at the school gate where Su Qing and her dormmates, each beautiful in their own way, had already drawn the attention of many boys after getting dolled up specially for today.
Even before Chang Hao arrived, there were already boys asking Zheng Yanyan for her contact information.
It’s not that Zheng Yanyan was the prettiest among the four girls, but she indeed was the one who knew best how to dress up. She was a tall and slim girl, wearing a white camisole paired with a white sun-protective garment, while her lower half was clad in dark denim shorts hugging the edge of her thighs.
Just those slender, shapely legs alone were enough to captivate many, and most importantly, she paired it with a pair of white knee-high socks.
The white cotton socks encased her slender ankles.
The sun-protective garment was left open while the camisole served as a tube top. From the front, one could see her slender waist, just enough to encompass with a hand. The belt of her denim shorts was somewhat loose, naturally forming an arc down from Yanyan’s belly button, and the slice of exposed waist within that arc was resoundingly seductive.
Compared to Yanyan, the others did indeed pale somewhat in their getups.
Su Qing, being a designer, had a good sense of style, appearing mature in her clothing choice—a white off-shoulder chiffon blouse paired with black shorts and white sneakers, clean and sharp.
Shen Yu’s outfit was a bit more girlish, with a round-neck knit top and a black suspender skirt over it.
As for their remaining roommate, her attire was even neater.
To tell the truth, Yuwen wasn’t familiar with Su Qing’s last roommate. He hadn’t seen her much in his previous life and Su Qing rarely mentioned her, though he did know her name—Lu Lin.
She was slim and tall, similar in body shape to Yanyan, but where Yanyan was flamboyant, this girl was much more reserved, dressed head to toe in black.
On the top, she wore a fitted black T-shirt with an oversized utility jacket, and the bottom was black skinny jeans. Her legs, like Yanyan’s, were thin and long, but while Yanyan showed off her legs, Lu Lin wrapped hers in jeans. Yet these flared black jeans made her legs look even longer and more slender.
She also wore a black baseball cap, making her appear reticent and low-profile.
When the eight of them met at the school gate, Zheng Yanyan couldn’t help but complain to Yuhang upon seeing him, "Why are you so late!"
"Not late, isn’t it supposed to be six o’clock?"
"Don’t you know you should come five minutes early?"
"Ah? Oh, sorry, sorry! Made all the beautiful ladies wait."
Chang Hao said, chuckling.
Then, everyone introduced themselves to each other.
Most people already knew each other, so formal introductions weren’t really necessary, except when it came to Lu Lin. Zhou Yuwen took an extra look at her; under her baseball cap, Lu Lin’s face appeared quite petite.
When she was introduced, she merely nodded slightly with a faint smile, clearly not interested in socializing, and there was even a hint of impatience, as if she were indulging a child.
After getting acquainted, they set out for Toronto. The Toronto Self-Service Seafood Restaurant was not far from the school, so they decided to walk there.
While walking, Zheng Yanyan couldn’t help but complain to Chang Hao, "If only you had a car, then we wouldn’t have to walk."
Chang Hao felt a bit embarrassed and said, "I’ve just started my freshman year, even if I were to buy a car, it wouldn’t be until a couple of years later."
"Didn’t you say you could borrow your uncle’s car?"
Chang Hao hadn’t expected that Zheng Yanyan would remember a boast he made offhandedly, so he could only scratch his head and chuckle, "Another day, I definitely will borrow it."
"Hmph, always bragging!" Zheng Yanyan scoffed.
Chang Hao was orbiting around Zheng Yanyan; after all, he was treating her to a meal today, so she was inclined to show him some favor.
As for Su Qing, she had intended to act aloof upon meeting Zhou Yuwen again, deciding that she couldn’t keep clinging to him.
But after encountering Zhou Yuwen, Su Qing only managed to stay cold for a short while. Realizing that Zhou Yuwen wasn’t paying much attention to her and was instead chatting with Shen Yu, she felt a sense of emergency and hurried over to strike up a conversation with Zhou Yuwen.
"Zhou Yuwen, why haven’t you been showing up for military training these past few days?" Su Qing wedged herself between Shen Yu and Zhou Yuwen, forcefully pushing Shen Yu aside.
Zhou Yuwen expressed his surprise and said, "Of course there’s something to do, what else could it be?"
"Are you writing a novel?" Su Qing asked, fixing her gaze on Zhou Yuwen.
This startled Zhou Yuwen, who thought, ’Could she have discovered my novel writing?’ But then he saw her inquisitive eyes and, feeling that her suspicion was unlikely, he laughed and said, "Why do you ask me if I’m writing a novel every time we meet? Why do you always think I should write a novel?"
"Because..." Su Qing started to say something but then hesitated, unsure what to say next.
"Because I think you have great writing skills, and if you wrote a novel, you’d definitely become an excellent author," Su Qing managed to find a reason.
Zhou Yuwen, observing the conviction in her eyes, felt somewhat reluctant to meet her gaze and nodded, saying, "Oh, is that so? Thank you for having such faith in me."
Zhou Yuwen had, in fact, only been chatting briefly with Shen Yu. He had asked Shen Yu whether she had joined the student council; Shen Yu was surprised, wondering how Zhou Yuwen knew she was recruited, especially since club recruitment hadn’t started yet. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Before they could continue their conversation, however, Su Qing interrupted them.
Then Li Qiang, who had been lingering on the side, finally saw his chance to step in: "You’re Shen Yu, right?"
"Huh?" Shen Yu didn’t have much of an impression of Li Qiang.
Li Qiang grinned, "I’m Li Qiang. We’ve met before."
"Oh." Shen Yu pondered, unable to recall immediately.
"You’re wearing Adidas too," Li Qiang said, eyeing Shen Yu’s shoes.
Shen Yu looked down at her clover-logoed white sneakers and smiled politely. Li Qiang went on to say his clothes were also Adidas.
We must be wearing a matching couple’s set!
Shen Yu glanced at the T-shirt Li Qiang was wearing and couldn’t help but smile wryly, "Yours is Adidas Originals, we’re not the same brand."
