Tale of a Hedonistic wizard

Chapter 348 Decades of resentment

The imperial house itself holds a great treasure trove of talent and power. They carry the blood of gods, and every individual holds a great deal of power.

It was also one of the reasons the House Gadfraye had been reigning over the empire for millennials.

Although the blood of the gods has been thinning down, nevertheless, they are the strongest house in the realm right now.

Angus was sitting on the sofa, inside the chamber.

The room was spacious, set up with a desk at the window end and a plush sofa set in the middle. The interior walls were of fine textures, and the chandelier in the middle of the room gave off an orange-coloured radiance.

Zenumus, escorted by the Four Grand Knights and Ser Neale, strode forward, stopping himself in front of Angus. His long robe dragged behind him; his velvet robes shimmered in the light.

"It's been a while, Your Highness," Anugs said with a casual tone, with a tone of total disrespect. With one leg over the other, he leaned back on the sofa.

Zenumus sighed as he sat opposite him, "Where have you been?"

He didn't mind his tone of speaking to him. Everyone in the palace was aware of his attitude. So the knights stayed silent, standing behind Zenumus.

Angus eyed them, and he said, squinting his eyes, "I see the amenities of the thrones are doing their work well."

Zenumus narrowed his eyes and gazed at Angus as if trying to understand him. He could guess what Angus was referring to. "They aren't things for me to use them. They serve the emperor, protecting him and serving the nation by doing so." Continue your adventure with empire

Angus chuckled, "Fine. But why did you bring them here?"

"They are my shadow."

"What if you are killed right now? Will they die with you?"

Zenumus clicked his tongue; clearly, he was annoyed to the point. He asked Angus directly, looking him in the eye, "Enough with the nonsense, Angus?"

Angus chuckled, leaning forward. "I heard that you were looking for me, so I came."

Zenumus sighed again and said, "You know, Angus, sometimes I wonder why you bother yourself with marriage and kids."

"What do you mean, brother?"

"I thought you were back to talk about your son."

"Ah, Jaegar, my dear son. I think he is doing pretty well. I don't need to intervene in his life. And I think he doesn't like me that much either."

"Aren't you going to ask why the family hadn't included him in the crown system?"

"Well, I am sure my son, Jaegar, isn't interested in such titles. He is beyond such materialistic possessions," Angus talked about Jaegar as if he had raised him with his own hands, with a prideful tone.

Zenumus's face wrinkled. Listening to his brother, one would think that he loved his son very dearly.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Alright. The reason I wanted to talk about was that, Have you heard of the name El Rine Muher?"

It was Angus' turn to frown, "No, what is it?"

"I am not sure myself; our men weren't clear on the intel, but whatever it is, they are turning out to be a big thorn in our side."

Angus continued, "They must be an individual or some organisation that is helping out the Rospuland nation. As of now, we have concluded that they have sent weapons, armour, and even some unidentified artefacts."

Rospuland, a nation situated right across the empire, was divided by the Province of Greozia.

Rospuland had been locked in conflict with the empire for decades. It all began when Rospuland attempted to annexe the territory of Greozia, which was proud of its generations-long independence, so they fiercely resisted against the Rospuland.

Though it was a small nation, Greozia stood against the mighty Rospuland. Even with their small numbers, they held their ground valiantly, thriving longer than anyone had expected. But over time, the tides turned, and Greozia could see that they couldn't win against the Rospuland.

At that time, Greozia had been in a good relationship with the empire. So they sought the help from the empire. The reason the empire intervened was for specific reasons, and after a few diplomatic meetings between the empire and Greozia, the empire decided to intervene and help the Province.

The Empire joined the war, decisively turning the war in Greozia's favour, dealing a crushing defeat to Rospuland.

The army of the empire consisted of skilled soldiers, and the might was not something Rospuland could handle. Their losses were staggering, and their ambitions of taking over the Province of Greozia were shattered.

Since then, Rospuland has harboured deep resentment towards the empire, avoiding direct warfare but constantly seeking ways to destroy the empire. They knew that, if an all-out war were to start against the empire, they wouldn't be able to survive much less deal any damage.

So they resorted to underhanded methods to sabotage the empire. They had been hiring third parties to deal with it, not directly involving themselves.

Now they had been active again, and Rospuland's activities in Greozia seemed to be escalating, prompting the empire to take action. The Emperor, deeply concerned, had convened his council to discuss the matter, knowing that allowing Rospuland to continue unchecked could lead to further unrest in the region.

The conflict shifted from the battlefield to shadows, with Rospuland motives unknown. They weren't able to deal any great damage to the empire until now, and it only added to their despair. They had never fully recovered from the blow dealt by the empire's intervention back then. It only fuelled their revenge against the empire.

Greozia, with its strategic position, has been a critical trade route for both sides. Though it was a small region, its importance was undeniable.

Zenumus had been in his council until yesterday regarding the matters of Rospuland. They could just deal with Rospuland once and for all, but they didn't find any traces leading back to the Rospuland.

If the empire acted impulsively, the union would come knocking on their doors.

So they also need to act covertly and deal with whatever Rospuland has been trying.
