The Earth After Rebirth

Chapter 429 Some Things Don't Go As Planned

"Are you sure you don't want me to help you?" Sekani asked overly concerned, he was a father and couldn't imagine himself doing this to one of his children.

It made him see Eldric in an even more positive light. As hard as he was with him, their relationship was strained, but he doubted that Eldric would ever stoop to the same level Arnold had gone.

Just thinking about the fact that little Nikolai was sold to slavery at such a young age made his blood boil. He wanted the man for himself but he stopped himself. Sekani knew it would be selfish, he didn't want to take anything away from Nikolai.

But at the same breath, he couldn't continue watching the father not even holding back against his young and only living son. He was hitting him like a child he thought was misbehaving, he wasn't disciplining him, it seemed he wanted to absolutely erase the boy from existence.

Nikolai was no longer holding two knives, his other arm had completely stopped working but he stood tall, wanting to be the one to end his father.

Arnold wasn't completely unscathed but he was still in a better shape than his son. He had cuts and bruises all over his arms and face.

"I'm still alright Mister Waynworth." Nikolai answered stubbornly because anybody could see that he wasn't alright.

Sekani promised himself he wouldn't move unless Nikolai himself asked him to. The anger he carried with him needed to die and be buried in this mine, he understood that.

Nikolai exhaled loudly and ran to his target as fast his tired legs could carry him. He jabbed the knife toward his father aiming for his jugular but Arnold smoothly blocked it by allow the knife to graze his neck and then forcefully push Nikolai's arm with his out of the way.

With the knife out of the way, he threw his palm and it connected with Nikolai's neck sending him into fits of coughs. Arnold stretched his leg and without holding back, kicked his son right on the ribs sending him flying back to where he originally stood.

This wasn't the first time he'd been kicked around, in fact his eyebrow lay split because of the punches he'd received multiple times. His eye was even threatening to close with how swollen it was.

Nikolai felt his rib collapse at the kick, he was winded and could barely breath. He made a strange sound every time he tried to breathe, he felt like his chest had tones of concrete ontop of it.

He tried getting getting up but the best he could manage was getting on his knees.

"You know Nikolai, I'd hoped you would come around. All those years I let you do whatever you pleased. I really wanted you to be my heir but alas you've disappointed me." He said cracking his hands and getting closer.

With a smirk he continued, "when I realised you had reached a level of no return I made it a point to replace you. You, your siblings, all useless. I'll ensure to raise my two new boys better. I'm really glad I came here, I've been looking for a way to kill you so I can properly start over." He now had a crazed expression on his face.

Nikolai coughed and blood splattered all around. The sharp pain whenever he breathed was kneeling on his neck.

"Y-you bastard..." He couldn't finish his sentence and completely lost consciousness.

Arnold let out an evil laugh, "it's too bad you won't be awake for your death, you little shit." He'd absolutely forgotten that Sekani was there too.

"Take another step and I'll kill you, slowly." He told him coldly.

Arnold froze in place for a second the smile disappeared from his face, he was genuinely surprised that there was a spectator for the little show he'd put on.

He sigh shaking his head as if to berate himself, "oh Arnold, now you have to kill him too."

"Do you think I'm joking?" Sekani asked coolly because Arnold hadn't stopped walking toward Nikolai to finish him off.

Sekani was stalling only because he wanted if only a second to attend to Nikolai, he wasn't sure just how seriously his wounds were. But at least he was still breathing.

"Don't be so impatient, I'll kill you next oka—"

Upon understanding that the man wouldn't stop for nothing, Sekani was already on his way when he started the sentence. Not giving him a chance to finish it.

Arnold saw nothing but the man's open hand closing in on his face, he wanted to fall back but it was already too late, his vision was dark before he knew it.

"I told you," Sekani said through gritted teeth holding the man by his face and slammed him on the concrete floor, "to stop walking!"

Sekani could feel his skull crack under the weight of his hand and the conrete floor. He knew he wouldn't be unconscious for long so he rushed to Nikolai's side, saving his life was more important than some revenge. Find your next adventure on empire

Arriving at the unconscious young man he carefully turned him around and started feeling around his abdomen for whatever was broken, he felt about three ribs that were broke.

With the way that he was breathing too, he figured they must've punctured his lungs. Sekani started to panic, he was just an engineer not a doctor, he created machines and had never done emergency surgery on humans.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Not that his world didn't offer the course for ordinary citizens, the problem was that it wasn't free and for someone from the slums money was everything and beyond. Nobody he knew even bothered with that kind of course.

When he got money and left the slums, it never registered in his mind to learn then.

Nikolai didn't seem too good either, making the situation seem more dire than it actually was. He tried to stir him awake but it didn't work, as someone from a rich family he thought maybe he would take him through it.

Sekani took out his backpack and started rummaging through it hoping there was something that would help him in this situation.

"There's no way Jon Scott would just pack weapons right, RIGHT?"
