The Veilwalker

Chapter 120 Dead End (2)

But the path he had chosen was a dead end and this was something he was bound to discover very soon. Even still, there was more surprise in store for him.

As Alex sped through the maze's sharp turns, he kept an eye out for any void creatures. The creatures behind him were relentless in their pursuit and if Alex hadn't a turn ahead of them, he would have received multiple attacks already.

'This is nuts! Why am I the only one here?' He was confused as to why he hadn't come across anyone till now.

From what he could deduce, he was the only one who had appeared in that large hall before. What vexed him more was the fact that it was crawling with void creatures, and they seemed hell-bent on keeping him from leaving.

'There's no point thinking about this now. First thing first is to get out of here ASAP.' He quickly made another turn and ended up in a dead-end.

"Shit!"

He cussed and turned around, not daring to waste time. He zoomed past the intersection where the void creatures were coming from and the one that was directly opposite to the path he initially took.

After a few seconds of running, he came across another dead end. "What the hell is happening?" Alex began to feel pressured as the feeling of being trapped was not a pleasant one.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"Now, I have no choice but to face the incoming void creatures." He sighed as he gathered his breath and swung his spear around before infusing it with his mana.

He wasn't going to wait around for the creatures to keep him in one place. 'It's better I take them on before they know what hit them', he thought and ran back to the path he came from.

As he got close to the next turn, he could hear the roars and screeches of the coming void creatures, and while he didn't know their numbers if he could zoom past them and take some of them out, it would decrease the invisible pressure he was feeling.

The moment he got to the turn, he leapt unto the adjacent wall of the labyrinth where he caught sight of the incoming void creatures.

They were already a couple of metres from where he landed on the wall and without stopping, he ran along the wall, quickly approaching the closest ones before they could react.

With a stern expression marred with traces of blood, he reached the first group of creatures, and his spear found its way through two of them, instantly finishing them.

Before he landed on the ground, Alex swung his spear in a wide arc that created a golden light wave that travelled at breakneck speed to the others, and in that one attack, cut through another three void creatures.

However, they weren't down for the count yet. Not wasting a breath after that attack, he closed in on them and using the various spear techniques he had learned, Alex thrust, slashed, spiral pierced, and whirlwind danced.

He used a combination of multiple moves to make short work of the void creatures using his absolute speed that outclassed them, and after a few seconds, killed all the eight void creatures that were on his tail.

Alex released a hot breath once he was done with them. His move had allowed him to finish off the void creatures before they could react.

Now standing alone in the labyrinth path, Alex thought about his next course of action with a hand on his chin, and the blood and pieces of flesh on his body and face added to the dangerous aura he let off.

'I'll have to head back to the large hall I came from and try another path. However, the remaining creatures should still be lingering there.' His gaze shifted to the bloody mess behind him as the number he had killed didn't add to the numbers he saw.

'Hmm… Let's approach quietly for now. There's no use in rushing.' His thoughts briefly settled on Julia and how she might be reacting to his disappearance.

'No…' He shook his head and continued, 'Julia isn't that weak to not know what to do when I'm not around. And the plan is to come out alive, first place can go to hell.'

He raised his head from his thinking pose and returned his to a short staff before placing it on his magnetic holder.

With a general plan in mind, he slowly traced his path back to the large hall. 'Let's finish some off and find a way out.'

It hadn't escaped him that the labyrinth walls hadn't shifted since he was put here. It was as if he was put in an entirely different section of the Convergence Maze.

Sometime later, he reached the edges of the large hall where he could make out the subtle sound of the void creatures. He stuck to the edge of the wall, looked over and observed what the remaining void creatures were doing.

'Six, nine, twelve, twenty-eight…' Alex counted the ones he could see as he was not sure if there were more in the regions he couldn't see.

The void creatures were just floating around as if they had nothing to do. 'Shouldn't they be scavenging the paths of the labyrinth?'

The behaviour of this bunch was very odd, to say the least, and this made him question if these void creatures were entirely a different class or something else.

He retrieved his gaze and stuck to the wall, breathing in and out to gather his nerves. Once he retrieved his staff and chose its spear form, he created a defensive ward around his body with his light abilities.

'Let's hope my mana doesn't run out before I make it to the other floors…' That was his only problem at the moment.

With that last thought in mind, he infused his spear with mana, ran out of his hiding place and instantly appeared mid-air before the void creatures could react.
