Chapter 179 You Have Successfully Caught My Attention
The computer system in the hotel office was connected to the front desk, and naturally, all the data within was also interlinked.
A bulky desktop computer sat on the desk, while beneath it hummed a row of machines, connected and emitting a stuffy, malodorous heat.
The server room was separate from the rest area; after all, the noise from the machines could really be quite bothersome over time.
The adjutant sat in the server room, and he became exceedingly restless after looking at the guest information for just a short while.
He shook his leg and pointed at the row of machines, saying, "I've got a suggestion for you, next time just buy some longer cable, put the machines inside a room, and the monitors outside, can you?"
The hotel manager forced a smile, "But, if the cables are longer, the speed of data transmission will also become very poor."
The adjutant glared at him fiercely, "What does that have to do with me! I told you to change it, so change it. Otherwise, if I have to hear this noise again, I will dismantle your hotel!"
The hotel manager: "..."
Is there going to be a next time for today's issue?
Is there no law and order anymore?!
But he still didn't dare say anything and acquiesced meekly since, even though they were wealthy from their business, they were still just ordinary civilians, far from comparing to the military and these officials in terms of status.
The adjutant opened the hotel system and noted down the room numbers that were currently occupied by guests. Out of thirty-six rooms, thirty-two were taken, and one was out of service.
The guests staying in the hotel all had their odd habits, some refusing to stay too far from the stairs, others not willing to stay too close to them, only settling for the rooms at an intermediate distance if all else failed.
Thus, aside from room 214, all rooms on the second floor were fully booked, while on the third floor, rooms 311 and 312 were still available, and room 303 was the one out of service.
Upon seeing the records, the adjutant paused.
Although he had never used this hotel system before, after some simple operations, he found the room change log for the guest in room 303.
Immediately, he thought back to the scene where everything was dismantled.
The bed and sofa were disassembled, and even if put back, they'd still feel awkward, so changing rooms didn't seem too problematic.
More so, in the situation where there were available rooms on the third floor, the fact that Doctor Kong had moved to the second floor suggested he had his own ideas.
It was good that he had checked the hotel data first before taking any rash action; otherwise, had he gone to room 303 and found it empty, he'd be both dumbfounded and likely to face the unforeseen.
At this moment, the door to the office suddenly opened.
As the adjutant perused the guest information, he looked up without the slightest hint of surprise and even greeted with a fake cheer, "You're already bored of each other?"
Capital Commandant walked in expressionless.
The adjutant, having received no response, didn't mind and continued, "Come over here and look, I tell you, Dr. Kong, who you've dismantled the room of before, he has actually changed rooms!"
He turned his head and readily sold someone out.
After all, revealing obvious information that was bound to be discovered bore no loss.
Capital Commandant's gaze shifted slightly, and he swiftly walked over to look at the computer.
The adjutant prattled on, "Is that guy indirectly mocking us? Should we go and give him a beating?"
The man's profile picture appeared on the computer, his face still wearing a gentle and scholarly smile. Capital Commandant stared at the new room number, his gaze suddenly deep and inscrutable.
"He deliberately provoked me just now," Capital Commandant spoke in a suppressed tone.
"What?" The adjutant seemed not to have caught on.
But after a moment, Capital Commandant only sneered coldly, not saying anything more, though the air around him was exuding an intense chill.
He fondled the golden red badge he had kept in his pocket, the darkness in the depths of his eyes growing heavy.
The adjutant's expression was somewhat strange.
He couldn't help but think of the various novels his younger sister, who was reading in junior high school, often read.
The Capital Commandant had already taken the mouse and, after quickly reviewing the occupancy status of the rooms and the information of the guests, he had a rough understanding in his heart.
If he had previously harbored doubts about the identity of the deceased, by now he was mostly convinced—although not entirely. However, to this point, his suspicion of the doctor was merely a feeling.
He needed to find a way to make the other party slip up on their own.
The Capital Commandant withdrew his gaze from the documents and turned to say, "Let's go, we still have a bunch of people to deal with down there."
If you didn't ponder his words deeply, you might think they were about to go on a killing spree.
But a military officer with two guns at his waist and an expressionless face radiated a cold and stern aura, like a flotilla from the underworld descending upon them, making him look the part indeed.
It must be that someone had angered him again.
The adjutant, ever eager for excitement, followed behind, saying, "Also, we'll probably need to investigate the hotel waitstaff later. Although the incident only happened last night, it's inevitable that the Radiant Corps might have already made arrangements here."
The Capital Commandant glanced at him expressionlessly, "You let those two go again?"
"Yes, we've been checking these rooms for such a long time without any action from them; perhaps they've guessed it was a trap," the adjutant pondered before saying, "So I initiated the second plan, let them leave, and had people closely watch their surroundings."
"Where are they now?" the Capital Commandant asked indifferently.
"Miss Merlin has returned to Manager Zhang's side and is now in the hotel lobby; the other person is staying in the staff room on the second floor with other hotel waitstaff," the adjutant, who was the Capital Commandant's deputy, replied smoothly.
The staff room is normally used by the hotel to store cleaning tools and for the waitstaff's breaks, situated across from the office, located midway along the corridor on the right side.
Besides the kitchen staff and the waitstaff who were originally in the lobby, all the waitstaff from the second and third floors had been gathered in the staff room.
Now, soldiers were guarding the entire hotel building, sealing it tight inside and out.

Except for the guest rooms and the hotel kitchen.
The hotel kitchen is located next to the staircase on the left side of the lobby, where the male waiter often stands by the door waiting for tasks, looking even more like a door god than the soldiers from the military region.
The kitchen space was very spacious; twenty-four chefs were on duty that day, as the hotel typically had more chefs than waitstaff.
Perhaps when the social season officially starts, there would be even more chefs on duty.
Even though they had been busy with afternoon tea for a while, the kitchen still hadn't had much of a break, because preparing ingredients always took a long time.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Busy with breakfast, then preparing for lunch; after lunch, they immediately started preparing for afternoon tea.
Now, they had to get ready for dinner.
When the Capital Commandant came down from the right staircase, he habitually surveyed the entire lobby, and his gaze, rotating ninety degrees, fell on the staircase across from him. Naturally, he also saw the male waiter standing at the door looking around.
But rather than watching the lobby, he looked back at the kitchen more frequently.
The Capital Commandant didn't have any particular thoughts at the moment but casually said, "Send someone to search the kitchen later as well, and don't overlook any place."
The kitchen, a somewhat chaotic space, had many potential hiding spots that should not be ignored.
The adjutant took a look and responded without much thought.
After all, he hadn't made any preparations in the kitchen.
But...
The male waiter, caught off guard by their casual glances, was now sweating profusely and seemed frightened.
