Chapter 244 You've Turned Dark Too Early
When all passengers began to mutate and you remained unaffected, it was impossible to keep up the pretense any longer.
Xu Shuo watched as the carriage returned to its familiar, battered state; the once lively passengers now looked dull and lifeless, their bodies exhibiting varying degrees of decay and missing limbs.
Then, he turned to look at the little girl.
The little girl hadn't changed much; she still had shoulder-length hair, round and tender cheeks pale and ash-gray, and her entirely black eyes were faintly emitting a wispy black mist.
She cracked a smile at Xu Shuo, appearing deceptively sweet but actually grim and terrifying.
Xu Shuo said expressionlessly, "Stop smiling, it's hideous."
The little girl: "..."
She quickly wiped the expression off her face, but this made her look even more sinister and frightening, like a vengeful doll from a horror movie.
Xu Shuo stepped closer, reached out, and pinched the little girl's cheeks, examining them from side to side.
"I'm curious, those people were clearly here to help you find the murderer, you should have been helping them according to the process, so why attack them?" he said indifferently.
"Process?" The little girl tilted her head, her speech somewhat muffled due to her cheeks being pinched.
"Also, don't you think your transformation came a bit early?" Xu Shuo continued talking to himself, as if he heard nothing.
"Huh?"
"According to the process..."
Xu Shuo increased the pressure on her cheeks, his voice deepening, "Where did you get this power from?"
Ordinary strength could not injure the little girl's body, even though her cheeks were being pinched out of shape and her zygomatic bones were under constant pressure from his fingertips, she showed no sign of pain, only a hint of confusion in her pitch-black eyes.
She seemed to want to think it over, but suddenly, the little girl's expression turned fierce as if she had noticed something.
The surrounding passengers had been silently mutating, showing no action for the time being, but the next moment, they abruptly lifted their heads, their eye sockets oozing with a thick, black viscous substance, looking hollow and terrifying.
They stared intently at the players present.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
It seemed as though with just one command, these walking corpses would launch a ferocious attack! Enjoy new stories from empire
The young man preparing to attack from behind cautiously put down the weapon in his hand upon seeing this.
As he did so, the passengers staring deeply at him showed no reaction, but the prickling sense of danger lessened slightly.
Suddenly, the young man felt very conflicted.
All were players, so why was there such a disparity in treatment!
Of course, maybe that guy wasn't a player at all, but a key BOSS in this scenario; regardless, taking an opportunity to kill it would never be wrong!
Xu Shuo glanced at him but paid him no heed.
He turned to look at the scenery outside the window, where the river was showing a winding, receding course, and they were about to reach the viaduct soon.
Only two minutes had passed in the game countdown.
They would definitely make it to the viaduct before the countdown ended!
The train was still running normally, and although the passengers had mutated, they had not launched an attack yet. One possibility was that the little girl had not given the command; another might be that her power was not yet sufficient to sustain the mutation of the entire train.
The other players had also figured out this issue.
...
At the connection between carriages.
The cautious young woman who had decided not to enter carriage thirteen was now very relieved. Although there were a few passengers blocking the way outside the carriage, there weren't many.
Besides, the door to carriage fourteen was locked.
After the mutation occurred, she had tried to push the door of carriage fourteen, only to find it locked.
Moreover, the previously crowded carriage fourteen was now pitch-black; nothing could be seen in the darkness that was as thick as surging ink, with only vague traces of something whirling inside.
The young woman stayed away from carriage fourteen and didn't attempt to touch it again.
Looking at the few dull and decaying entities at the carriage connection, she took out a mechanical device and fastened it onto her wrist. Then, the device expanded into mechanical wings, like some sort of crossbow.
But while she was making her move, the previously still passengers unanimously turned their heads towards her.
The young woman froze: "..."
There were only eleven passengers here; dealing with them all herself wouldn't be a problem, but inside carriage thirteen...
She gazed over, but because too many passengers were blocking the ends of the carriage, she couldn't see what was happening inside; she only knew that those two who had tried to come out earlier were blocked.
At the moment, no one from that side looked this way.
The ones staring at her were only these ten or so at the carriage connection.
Should she take action now?
Would she attract the attention of that monster?
As the young woman hesitated, a commotion suddenly erupted from carriage thirteen!
Sharp, angry screeches tore through the air; in the next moment, the previously still passengers let out hoarse roars like wild beasts breaking free of their cages, opening their mouths full of sharp teeth, and ferociously lunging at the nearest person!
The young woman quickly raised her crossbow; a glistening golden arrow whizzed by and embedded itself in a passenger's forehead.
As she watched nervously, the crack-like golden lines spread from the corrupted face, and the passenger collapsed straight down.
Seeing that it worked, the young woman let go of her concern and, moving with agility, dodged the lunging passengers. In a swift motion, several arrows of light flew out, hitting each passenger accurately.
In no time, all eleven people at the carriage connection lay down.
The young woman stayed alert, leaning against the train door and partly hiding around the corner, peering to observe the situation inside carriage thirteen.
What do you think?
