Chapter 82 Did I Hear Wrong?
Lin Tian turned his head and found that his cellphone was ringing.
Lin Tian leaned over to pick up the cellphone and glanced at it.
"Who is it?" He Qianqian asked curiously, lifting her head.
"It's my mom," Lin Tian replied, and then he answered the call.
"Hello? Mom!"
"Bro! You're famous now! You've become the top scorer!" An excited shriek from his sister Lin Fang came through the phone.
"What happened?" Lin Tian asked, somewhat startled.
"Hey! Brother, you haven't forgotten the date, have you? It's the 23rd, the college entrance exam scores are out!" Lin Fang's voice turned urgent over the phone.
"Ah?" Lin Tian was taken aback; he had indeed forgotten. However, after a moment's pause, he realized what his sister meant; he must have scored well, possibly even as the top scorer.
So Lin Tian asked with curiosity, "Did you check for me? How did I do?"
"I used your exam registration number to check online, and brother, do you know how many points you scored? 700 points! You're the top scorer in the college entrance exam, no one in the province scored higher than you!" Lin Fang's voice was loud, even He Qianqian at his side could hear.
Hearing Lin Fang's voice on the phone, He Qianqian was stunned. She hadn't expected Lin Tian to score so high.
"Hey, Lin Tian, where are you now?" This time, the voice of his mother, Shi Qing, came through the phone.
Clearly the phone had been passed to her.
"Uh..." Lin Tian hesitated briefly then said, "I'm hanging out in Jia'an City."
"Stop hanging out, and come back quickly," Shi Qing's voice was also filled with excitement. Her son had done so well; she felt a sense of pride and relief.
"Oh, okay, I'll do that," Lin Tian nodded again and again.
After a brief chat with his mom, Lin Tian hung up the phone.
After hanging up, Lin Tian glanced at He Qianqian, gave a wry smile, and said, "It looks like I have to go back."
"You should go back. Come over again when you have time," He Qianqian said with a light smile, then looked at Lin Tian with some surprise, "I didn't expect you could score that well."
"Well, that's because you don't know who taught this student!" Lin Tian boasted with a smile, reaching his hand toward He Qianqian. Continue reading on empire
"Don't move!" He Qianqian slapped Lin Tian's hand away, gave him a look, and huffed, "And you're boasting? You don't even know how bad you used to be in your grades."

A day later, carrying a small bag, Lin Tian arrived at Greenlight Residential Complex.
Originally, Lin Tian did not want to return so soon, but his family had urged him fervently, so he had no choice but to come back.
As he walked into the entrance of the residential complex, he hadn't gone far when he saw a mother and son approaching from ahead.
The mother and son held their heads high, exuding a great deal of confidence. They seemed very spirited.
After glancing at the mother and son, Lin Tian's brows slightly furrowed.
He recognized them; they used to live above Lin Tian's apartment. Later, they moved out and rented their old place to someone else. He didn't know why they had come back now.
The son used to go to the same school as Lin Tian, but after they moved, he transferred to another school.
Lin Tian did not like this family at all because they were too boastful. Still, he continued walking forward.
"Hello, Aunt Lin, come over when you have the time," Lin Tian greeted them as he walked by.
"Oh, Lin Tian!" Aunt Lin's face, with some wrinkles, lit up with recognition.
"Mhm!" Lin Tian replied politely, then planned to leave, but she stopped him.
"Hey, don't go. Lin Tian, you're also a senior three student, right?" Aunt Lin asked warmly, smiling at Lin Tian.
"Yes," Lin Tian stopped, looking at her curiously.
"The scores came out yesterday. How much did you score?" Aunt Lin continued to smile at Lin Tian.
From her smile, Lin Tian knew what was going on. Her son must have scored well, and she was probably looking to show off again.
Now Lin Tian also realized why they were here.
Not wanting to waste time, Lin Tian replied casually, "It was okay."
"Could you make it into a second-tier university?" Aunt Lin looked at Lin Tian with an encouraging gaze, as if talking to a junior, "It's okay if you didn't, you can always retake the exam next year, just work hard. My son Feng got 650 points this year."
"Oh, congrats then!" Lin Tian said with some resignation. With that, he prepared to leave.
But before Lin Tian could step away, Aunt Lin grabbed his hand, "Hey, I haven't finished talking to you, child. You're in such a hurry. I'm telling you, if you decide to retake the exam and need help, just ask Feng if he's around. We moved back here."
"..." Lin Tian was speechless, opened his mouth but eventually said nothing. As he was about to leave, suddenly a group of people walked into the residential complex.
The group headed inside and encountered Lin Tian and the other two.
Seeing Lin Tian, the middle-aged leader's eyes brightened, and he quickly approached, "Is this Lin Tian?"
"I am? And you are...?" Lin Tian looked at the man in confusion.
"I'm from the city's education bureau, and on behalf of the bureau, I congratulate you for having secured the top score on the college entrance exam. We've also brought a small scholarship for you!" The middle-aged man smiled warmly at Lin Tian. He had seen Lin Tian's photo beforehand, so he recognized him.
"Ah? Oh! Thank you!" Lin Tian responded belatedly and quickly said, "Please, come over to my place."
As the group walked away, Aunt Lin and her son stood there frozen, staring in disbelief.
Top scorer on the college entrance exam?
Did they hear that right?
Lin Tian?
...
Bringing this group of people back home turned the place lively again.
In the following days, Lin Tian's home buzzed with bustle. There were friends and relatives coming to congratulate, news reporters and TV stations conducting interviews, and then the banquets to host.
For a whole week, Lin Tian had no respite. He had to deal with one thing after another.
Lin Tian found it all very annoying; this wasn't what he wanted at all. If it were up to him, he would prefer to hide away in his room reading novels.
But that just wasn't possible. Essential socializing still had to happen, of course, mostly pressured by his mother, Shi Qing.
Sick to death of it all, Lin Tian began to regret why he ever bothered to perform so well academically, landing him in the current situation.
However, after a week, the troubles died down quite a bit. While some websites still wanted interviews, he managed to fend them off.
Finally, Lin Tian could catch his breath.
That afternoon, after finishing lunch, Lin Tian, bored, sprawled on the sofa watching TV.
"I'm off to work," said Lin Fang, who didn't have the luxury of leisure like Lin Tian. She had found a summer job to 'gain some experience.'
"Oh, that soon?" Lin Tian looked up at the wall clock and saw it was just twelve-thirty.
"Someone invited us sisters out for the afternoon." Lin Fang said as she opened the door to leave.
Lin Tian didn't think much of it and responded, continuing to watch TV.
An hour later, Lin Tian, bored with flipping through TV channels, turned off the set in resignation, muttering, "Nothing good on."
Stretching languidly, he reached for his phone to check for updates on the novels he was following.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
But the moment he unlocked his phone, it began to vibrate in his hand.
Lin Tian glanced at the screen—it was a call from an unknown number.
Seeing the number, Lin Tian frowned, puzzled, and answered, "Hello?"
As soon as the call connected, the frantic and anxious voice of his sister, Lin Fang, came through, "Brother! Hurry, save me, I'm at Heavenly Eye, I... thud!"
Her words were cut off abruptly as the call ended!
Staring at the disconnected call buzzing on his phone, Lin Tian was stunned.
After a moment of shock, Lin Tian's face turned ashen and he scrambled to his feet!
Lin Tian dashed out the door in a frenzy, not even bothering to change out of his slippers!
Once outside, he forcefully flagged down a taxi, pulling out the passengers by force.
Jumping into the cab, Lin Tian threw a wad of cash at the driver and barked coldly, "To Heavenly Eye! Fast!"
Faced with Lin Tian's fearsome glare, the driver, who had been about to curse, quietly started the car.
Eight minutes later, Lin Tian stormed into the Heavenly Eye Club.
"Hey!" As Lin Tian burst in, two white-uniformed security guards at the door hurried forward to stop him.
"Out of my way!" Lin Tian roared, shoving past the guards.
He charged into the lobby, eyes wide as he frantically looked around.
One sweeping glance later, Lin Tian quickly strode toward the front desk.
Reaching the desk, Lin Tian grabbed a female supervisor with one hand and demanded, "Where is this person?" As he spoke, he took a small photo out of his wallet.
In the picture were Lin Tian and his sister.
"You…" The sudden aggression whitened the female supervisor's face with fear.
"Hey, kid!" At that moment, the two security guards Lin Tian had shoved aside rushed back in, along with three more.
Seeing the advancing guards, the female supervisor's face quickly recovered some color, her eyes gaining a hint of confidence.
"What are you doing!" One guard hustled over, grabbing Lin Tian's shoulder, trying to spin him around.
The other security personnel also charged toward Lin Tian.
A flash of rage crossed Lin Tian's eyes. Releasing the supervisor, he spun around—smack!
Lin Tian's slap sent the guard grabbing his shoulder flying, knocking him unconscious.
"Bam!" Lin Tian forcefully kicked out!
Smack!
Another guard was sent flying with a kick.
Lin Tian grabbed an ashtray from the counter and flung it.
Bang!
Instantly, another onrushing guard was struck in the head, bloodied and knocked out cold!
Clean and efficient!
In just a few seconds, three guards lay on the ground, immobile!
Lin Tian's ruthless display shocked everyone, and the remaining two guards froze, too frightened to advance.
Lin Tian glared, his eyes bloodshot, then forcefully pulled the dazed female supervisor to him, demanding, "Take me to this girl!"
"She… she seems to be with Lin Tianyi!" the female supervisor stammered.
"Take me there!" Lin Tian tightened his grip, commanding her!
