Chapter 102 Forgot
It wasn't long before the boy noticed just what Jake had been doing and backed off. Instead of wasting his pride and life on a continuous attack, he took a moment to recover by backing up… but I assume that was all part of Jake's plan as the calculative older teen slowly began to walk forward.
His face was expressionless, and his eyes swirling with emotions soon went cold. He let out a long breath of exhaustion, expelling any pollutants that had entered his lungs. This caused the boy to smile as he attempted to get up, only to fall back onto his ass. He proceeded to cackle as if his life wasn't still in danger.
"Alright," the boy chuckled. "You win… wait… wait… wait! Stop! Don't! Don't! I'll give you the position! Please don't kill me! My family will-"
And just like that, the boy's head was sent flying across the hall, eventually rolling to my feet. I glanced up from my relaxed position, kicking the lifeless head to the side. I immediately met eye-to-eye with Jake, who took a cloth out of his bag and wiped down the blood from his machete, making sure it wouldn't turn out like the daggers of his victim.
"Why did you do that?" I intriguingly asked.
Jake slowly began to walk towards me, his breath seemingly being stifled by something. But from what I could see, his injuries were very minimum. Extremely minimum for the dude he had just faced off against. It was almost like he could have beaten him without taking so much damage, but I guess that's what makes his strategies worth it: an image of untouchableness. An image of invincibility so nobody would ever dare to approach you.
Finally, he stepped in front of me, stopping as how towering height looked down on me. He had to be at least six feet without even reaching the peak of high school. Surely, he was bound to grow taller even more than what he was at right now.

"Are you aware of the ranking within this school?" Jake asked, flipping his machete into the air, forcing me to take a step back. And as it swished right between us, slicing right into the ground like a hot knife through butter, he answered his own question. "It's a ranking to determine the strongest of the school. And whoever is in the Top 10 is provided tons of support from the school. And I doubt it, but if I become a sword, a blade for the academy, then my support would be even greater."
"Why do you need so much support?"
From the depths of his pupils, I saw them turn completely black. They were pitch black down to the roots, and as they swirled like a whirlpool of rage, I felt a crushing amount of bloodlust weigh down on my shoulders. It was painful, once again, just like the machete. It felt like a hot knife was slicing straight through my skin, my skull, my knees, my shoulders, my elbows. Everything in my body was on fire as this man stared at me, barely able to squeeze out a few words without blowing up into a fit of rage.
"I'm taking revenge," he uttered through gritted teeth. For a second, I wanted to ask him on who he was going to take revenge against, but seeing how that was none of my business, I just shut up…. There was also the risk he would just straight up kill me if I asked that, so I shoved it even deeper into the back of my mind, knowing if I asked anything else, my life would potentially end.
Slowly, the young man walked away, picking up his bag and traversing through the school halls like he hadn't just slaughtered one of the strongest kids in school.
"Also, I guess I'm pretty lucky if I had already had support from the school."

Later that day, I was relaxing in my dorm room, skipping yet another class. I was just scrolling on my phone and napping in between to recover from my previous nap. It was strange, but every time I fell asleep and woke back up, I just felt more exhausted than before, resulting in an endless cycle of sleep.
But unfortunately, I was caught in between naps when I was slowly scrolling on my phone, mindlessly absorbing all of the information. And surprisingly, the person who caught me was a familiar face.
"Hey, what's up," I smiled, seeing Elora enter through my front door. But just as I was about to get up, she ran over to me and punched me in the stomach, completely knocking the wind out of me. "Ugh… what the… fuck is… wrong with you…"
I groaned on my bed, trying to take my breath as the girl stood over me, lightly glaring down into my own eyes. I was wondering why she had come here and assaulted me like that, but unfortunately, I remembered an important meeting that I had missed yesterday.
"Shit… is this about-"
"Yes, it is. She wants to talk to you, so please follow me. We have yet to go on the mission, so you still have a chance at redeeming yourself. Lothin and I vouched for your strength, so you better not fuck this up."
"That kid vouched for me? I thought he hated my guts," I groaned once again as I sat up from my bed and pushed the elven girl to the side. She easily swayed over, and just as I was about to begin walking to the door, I felt Elora's fingers dig deep into my shoulders, her nails nearly puncturing my skin.
"At least give me a fucking 'thank you.' The boss is scary as hell when she's angry. In fact, if it wasn't for you, you would either be dead or kicked out of the group," Elora demanded thanks from me, which I quickly gave before running out of my dorm room. It may have just been a limp "thank you very much," but she still seemed proud of herself and quickly accepted it.
Soon, I arrived at the front doors of the woman's office. I have yet to know her name, but upon seeing the plating of the room number and whoever was the owner of this office, I just assumed her to be,
"Miss Wixx… hey! Long time no see… so you called me, right?" I attempted to play it cool, but she was unwavering in her stern and very rageful glare that dug straight into the depths of my own soul. I mean, she personally told me where to go and when to go, which I doubt she rarely ever does, meaning I wasted her moment of kindness.
Even as the doors shut behind me with a loud BANG, the woman kept her mouth shut. Her eyes told me everything I needed to know, so I dropped the chill act and lowered my eyes to the ground, eventually allowing her to speak up and open her soft red lips.
"You wasted my kindness, so I won't be granting YOU any more kindness. While we're on the mission, you will be serving as intel, communicating back to me what is happening. There will be no fighting for you… also, you aren't allowed free meals now. Start paying for them again or starve."
"Wait! Wait! I use those free meals to help my siblings eat! We don't have any money! We can't ask our orphanage for money when they're already fucking starving… I mean, I didn't even miss a mission. It was just a meeting. Like, come on… seriously? How much is there to actually discuss," I chuckled with a smug look, but the woman just stared blankly back at me. She was clearly unamused.
"I'm sorry. I seriously need those meals for my siblings. I'll pay for my own, but can you at least pay for theirs?" I lowered my head even further, and for some reason, the woman's eyes widened with surprise. "We've already discussed this. There is no reason for you to be surprised."
"*sigh*... fine, I'll help pay for your meals, but you are still doing intel on this next mission. I'll send you the details in a bit but do prepare as we are heading out tonight. Do not disappoint me any further, boy."
"Yes, ma'am," I replied, leaving the room with a blank expression.
It wasn't long, but I took a nap before the mission, finding myself in a nightmare when I was extremely young. I was probably around the age when the event happened, but this one distinct event that really fucked me up continued to play in my head.
"Mama! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I won't do it again! I'm sorry! Please! It hurts!" I watched my young self plead as he was plastered onto the ground, bruised with belt marks on his face, chest, arms, and legs. He attempted to apologize for his simple misdoing yet was beaten to the brink of death by his merciless mother.
The sight almost made me want to throw up. I didn't want to see this anymore.
