Chapter 1072 Perfect Target
Chapter 1072 Perfect Target
"Why did you do that?" Michael asked, "Why did you choose me? Why did you create me?" The Will did not exactly create Michael, but it sure created the man Michael had become through various events that shaped his character. All it took was tiny pushes here, some pulls there, and nice gifts at the right moment. Everything he had obtained from the Origin Expanse was orchestrated to turn him into the man he had become. He was born with Fenrir's Curse. Michael would have considered it as a coincidence since the Will couldn't have known Michael at that moment, but it was too much of a coincidence to be one. At least now that Michael was aware of the last pieces of information. The pieces he was missing to understand the big picture…the grand scheme of the Will.
'Extraction changed Fenrir's powers. They didn't alter the powers, but Extraction allowed me to acquire Soultraits like candy and upgrade them. That is something nobody has ever done. Nobody has even been capable of it. Except for the Will. It must have altered Fenrir's power, but not enough to attract any attention. Fenrir is prideful enough to consider his powers supreme. He would have never noticed anything wrong, even though he had never been capable of extracting Soultraits. But that's easy to hide. Fenrir is a god and has always been. He was never interested in Soultrait Symbols in the first place. Thus, he never even considered trying extracting Soultraits as they're considered inferior…'
Michael swallowed hard, and he tilted his head.
'Fenrir has been revolting against me a lot. Was that because of Extraction's slight alteration, or was it because of something else? In fact, when Extraction grew stronger, it became harder to control Fenrir for a long time. Was that also because of the changes infused by the Will?'
He stared at the Will, the pleasant and soothing feeling he'd felt when around the creator of the Origin Expanse replaced by confusion and sadness. There was no anger, even though he would have loved to be angry at the Will.
'The Lord Rift must have also been part of the Will's plan. My encounter with Taros as well. Danny's death against the Undead Pharaoh…was that too planned? And Masked Saber's death in the Lord Rift, followed by his return in the Miniature Coffin Keychain?'
Too many coincidences aligned, especially his arrival at the Untamed Jungle and his perfectly suited powers. The discovery of the Temple of the Forgotten. Throwing the Dragys at him, forcing him to enter the Temple of the Forgotten in a timely manner. Everything that happened in the Origin Expanse could have been the Will's scheme.
In fact, it was probably the Will's scheme.
"My plan was set in motions countless years ago when I offered the Primal to seal gods in Soultrait Symbols. I reached out with a finger, but they grasped the whole hand, which was exactly what I had been hoping for. They were greedy but also desperate to remove the threats without killing them. After all, their deaths would have altered the weave IF they were killed by the Primal themselves. While that does not matter anymore, given the recent deaths of Primal and gods, it did matter hundreds of thousands of years ago.
I devised several plans and came up with the idea of waiting for the strongest mortal vessel to appear in the Origin Expanse. However, even after hundreds of thousands of years ended, nobody suitable appeared. That was when I decided to intervene more actively. I spread more rewards and created Ancient Ruins, Dungeons, Lord Rifts, and special rewards for attaining seemingly impossible tasks. Creating everything was easy. All it needed was enough Essence."
The will sighed. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Unfortunately, the plan didn't work out. Mortals acquired enough power to transform into gods. They conquered ruins, dungeons, and rifts, thus accumulating the Essences stored within these places. That was part of the rewards I was willing to give them. The Essences produced by the Expanse were used to spread the expanse, create Lords, and help everyone grow stronger. I was trying to increase the potential of all living beings to create The One.
But even that wasn't enough. My subtle actions weren't enough to create the changes needed to create an almighty Lord. That changed subtly when I started using the bloodlines of those with the strongest potential…those feared by most people. I merged the Curses of sealed gods into their souls. It started with fractions of their sealed essence, amplified by the Essence of the Origin Expanse, to create stronger beings. Their power skyrocketed, but the Curses were too powerful and wreaked havoc in the minds and souls of the first Curse Users.
I was forced to seal the Curses within the targets and allow the Curse Users to become Cursed Children, adapting to their curses and expanding their souls slowly before the Curses could be unsealed. It was difficult to pick suitable bloodlines, and many fell victim to powerful entities subordinate to the Primal. However, after painstaking efforts and some great fortune, the first Curse Users containing and controlling Beast God Curses were born. I started fusing curses with my essence into the bloodline's descendants, allowing the Cursed Children to get used to their curses in their mother's womb. The survival rate was the highest, and I was able to infuse stronger curses as time passed.
Not everyone was suitable, but things were getting better. That was when you arrived. My last prospect, Cleave Fenrir, died miserably. He was arrogant and self-centered, thinking of himself as the strongest entity in the universe even though he still had a long way to go and died long before he could attain what I had planned for him. He was my last failed prospect and the reason I decided to get involved even more in the growth of the next prospect."
Michael swallowed hard, "That's me. I was the next prospect. For…whatever reason."
The input of information was a lot, but Michael tried digesting it all.
"You were the perfect target. I didn't even have to do much. Your personality was great, and you worked hard from the start. The only issue was your gentle nature. Your kindness isn't bad, but I had to ensure you wouldn't fail your task. A soft heart is great, but if you are too soft, you will die miserably. That was my biggest fear. Thus, I got involved. It was necessary." The last words should have angered Michael, but his entire being was void of emotions at this point.
"I still don't understand what your plan is. Why did you need a prospect in the first place? For what reason do you need a prospect? What did you plan to do with me?"
Michael was simply too confused and overwhelmed to feel emotional. That did not make any sense but the myriad of thoughts and words he had to digest made it hard to get angry, feel sad, or to throw a tantrum. "My body is breaking apart. In fact, it has been breaking apart for a while now. I might be the creator of the Origin Expanse, and I am bound to it. Like everything else, it is connected to the weave at some point, but the Origin Expanse has been expanding too fast. It was a slight miscalculation on my side. When I created the Origin Expanse, I failed to establish a perfect connection to the Origin. You know, the weave is still connected to the Origin and countless other entities. However, I am the only one properly connected to the Origin Expanse. That means every Essence, no matter how little, goes through me first. The amount of Essence used to maintain the Expanse is great but both the weave and the Origin Expanse produce more Essence since the beginning of everything. The weave uses this to empower the Primal but also to create more gods, stronger gods. It increases its inhabitants' potential. That is not something I can do with Summons. In the first place, Summons is an asset used to drain the Essence of the Expanse. Every Summon uses a trace of the purest Essence to be resurrected. Unfortunately, that isn't enough to drain everything.
Either way, I was in need of someone born outside the Origin Expanse to bind to the Origin Expanse and become the link between the Origin Expanse and the Origin. You, born in the universe, are naturally connected to the Origin. You are part of the Origin Universe's population. Therefore, you can do what I couldn't. I needed someone to fix my mistake and reconnect the Origin Expanse to the Origin, where it belongs."
"So…what are you planning to do?" Michael asked, still frowning deeply.
"Me? I am going to die. You, on the other hand, will replace me. You will become the Lord of the Origin Expanse. The Supreme Lord, if you want to put it like that!"
